Christening Gift

Christening Gift

My nephew's christening is next weekend and I've been asked to be his godmother. but, I'm stuck as to what to get him. I thought I might get a nice piggy bank (possibly monogrammed?) and start it off for him with either some money or a savings bond? Does that sound like a good idea?

Then I thought maybe I should get him a cross and chain (is that too girly?) but I'm having a hard time finding anything but 9 ct gold over here in England.

What do you think? And if you vote the money route, how much should I put in? I was thinking about $100...

I thought, and I could be wrong, that it is tradition that the godparent get the baby the cross, so my opinion would be to get the cross. (At least that is what I told my brother - when my son was born.)

I agree with Tracey. I believe its sort of an 'unsaid' role of the godparent to get the cross for the godchild.

Are you and Seb the godparents, or is someone else the godfather?

Usually in that case, sometimes one godparent gets the cross and the other godparent gets an ID bracelet -- that sort of thing

Though money is still a very generous gift and I love the piggy bank idea (i got my nephew that myself)
