Ok, I really like them (by the way we are not jewish ).....I think they had one at TWOTY....Is there another name for them besides chuppah? Has anyone ever seen one set up at JT? I can't afford an arch full of flowers and I'm not too crazy about the column thing JT provides.....so I was thinking a chuppah might be really pretty - I just don't think I've ever seen a picture of one at JT....Does the florist provide one? Are they expensive?!?! Is it okay to have something like that if we aren't jewish? Or will people think its weird?OMG I have so many questions! Sorry!

Re: Chuppahs
You should just get a balloon arch. That wouldn't be 80's at ALL

Re: Chuppahs
You can absolutey have one if you're not Jewish. One of the things that a chuppah symbolizes is the home and the love that covers and surrounds you and your FH. It's a beautiful thing that applies to ANYONE.
Your florist can provide one, but they're $$$$. I got mine off of Ebay. It is very simple/elegant. Just 4 poles covered in this sheer, white tulle/organza material. I may add some white flowers on my own or just have the florist add a few. And then I may put candles around it as well.

This is the look I'm sort of going for (minus the flower carpet on top though it's gorgeous...just way too much money).

I think I just searched chuppah. The whole structure including the material was around $200 I think, including shipping. Anway, I'll have no need for it once i'm done with it so you can totally buy it off me. I won't even charge you full price! Seriously though, once my wedding is over (in a few weeks) I'll just do a once over of it to make sure it didn't get dingy or anything and you're more than welcome to take a look.

Your florist can provide it and it can be expensive...mine accounts for 1/3 of the cost of my flowers. Instead of flowers you can do a tapestry or something that is special to you, and then maybe get it framed to display after the wedding.

Re: Chuppahs
They can be provided through the florist (we're getting one for our Jewish ceremony) and the ones with more elaborate flowers cost more- also depends on the style and draping as well- ours is costing us $500.00 (minimal flowers since we're only using it for 30 minutes) and the most a florist wanted for one was $900.00 which had a ton of flowers on them.
I guess it can be called a canopy instead of a chuppa? Also some florists (and couples) use it after the ceremony to decorate the dais/sweetheart table but FH and I aren't doing that.
I've seen weddings that weren't jewish incorporate this into the wedding- it's also wonderful knowing what it symbolizes as well... I don't think you're crazy for wanting one at all.

Re: Chuppahs
I'll keep looking, but I'm having a hard time finding it. But i believe it's a 4 post, rod iron 'chuppa' like structure. I am paying the florist to put tulle ($150) around the whole thing and a large flower spray across the top front ($100).

i got to go there or see a picture of what they have.....last i remember they had this thing that reminded me of columns and if i remember right it matched the short pedestals that went along the aisle that people put flowers on (like mini columns)....FH hates them and doesnt want the structure or the mini columns for flowers - which is fine because i wasn't crazy about them either
i got to see what yelley is talking about - if thats the case i can have the florists decorate with tulle or some kind of fabric.....
