Re: Church
I have spoken to many churches and found the majority of priests are quite rude and won't return phone calls.Just keep trying until he does.

Re: Church
I know to set up my original meeting with the priest, it took over a month. He did take awhile before he called me back (I left a couple messages) and then we played phone tag for weeks. The receptionist at the rectory held the date and time in the calendar for me. The priest was either on vacation or in a conference etc (it was last summer).I called him a week ago to set up a ceremony planning meeting and he is yet to call me back.

Re: Church
Thanks for your replys. My FI told me to call his church as well (I really want to get married there) so if I don't hear back by this weekend maybe I will stop in.

Re: Church
The first priest we had (long story) was pretty good in calling us back. We were able to get an appointment with him the next week. We went in and after all the paperwork, we got to reserve the date and time with the Church. It is much more important at my church (it’s the Diocese Cathedral and very busy) to book them first, then we went out in search of a reception place. We had no problems with the reception places being booked already. We lucked out in that aspect.

Re: Church
I have to admit I booked my hall already for next nov. (bad me) So far my parish is available and has not called me back it is very frustrating. today I called FI's church. Considering many people just showed up, I may try that. Thanks

Re: Church
Don't worry about booking your reception site first. We booked our reception site first and most churches thought we were way early calling a year ahead. Unless your church is very busy, chances are it will be available.

Re: Church
I also booked my reception hall before my church and my wedding is in 2004. I was able to that because I am very active in my church so any date and time that I wanted to get married was fine with me. So I booked my reception hall and then went to the church. They put me in the back of the book for 2003 and next May they will put me in the book for 2004.

Re: Church
I called my church numerous times before I received a call back. In fact, I pretty much called everyday for 3 weeks or so. I didn't officially book my reception location before I reserved the church because Flowerfield held the date for me with no deposit for one week..I was lucky. The worst part was that I kept calling the church to make sure the date was still available...but, they wouldn't put my name in the book until we met with the priest. The funny part is that after we did meet with him, we had to laugh because we worried for nothing...there was not one other wedding scheduled for April! You'll be fine...don't worry.

Re: Church
I had no problem I called and they told me when he'd be in and I called back & spoke to him.I booked my date & time of my mass/ceremony over the phone with him and I even went in a few weeks after to confirm.
I will meet with him again soon after we do & finish precana (in september) and discuss further things such as donation fees, if the video or photographer is allowed on the altar or not etc.

Re: Church
The priest that we are using takes forever to get back to us as well. Everytime we call him it takes awhile for him to call back. It does worry me a bit, but he eventually calls. Guess priests are busy people.

Re: Church
I had no problems in getting an appointment with our priest. We booked in June 2001 for July 2003 and they had no problem with that. I had the hall hold my date for a day and booked the church and went back the next day to book the hall.

Re: Church KAREN
Karen,I noticed in you are getting married at St Williams. That is one of the churches I called. Who is marrying you? how long did it take your priest to call you?

Re: Church
I called my priest in June, to hold my wedding date of August 2003. He screamed at me, and he was like.. 'It's not even August of THIS YEAR yet!' He told me to call him back about my ceremony in JANUARY. Isn't that pushing it? I have everything else booked, including my hall. He is making me feel very uneasy and insecure about my church situation. I sent him a certified letter stating the time and date I want to the ceremony to take place. He never responded. But I certainly DO NOT think I should have to wait until JANUARY to speak with him about my August wedding. What should I do?

Re: Church
Call the rectory and see if your date is booked. Then call back the priest and explain that you want to make sure the date is not taken because you need to plan the reception this far in advance. Good Luck!

Re: Church
we're having a similar problem with the church. the receptionist will not allow us to reserve a date without meeting with the priest but he has not returned my call yet. i am very anxious to book my reception hall. will churches generally schedule the wedding ceremony for the time of day that you request, or are they picky about that?

Re: Church
Thanks for your help guys...this is just so frustrating. I guess these priests don't understand how important it is to know everything in advance. I'm very aggravated about this, I'm suprised it's happening to a lot of you girls as well. As far as the mass/ceremony times churches offer...I have no clue..but in the certified mail i wrote the date and '3:00' If he didn't agree with the contents of my letter, he should have contacted me, I sent it 3 months ago. Something tells me I'm going to have a huge layover before the reception because he won't like the time. And I wonder how much this is going to cost between the donation, organist and priest gratuity.
