Church

Hey everyone!!!

I have an issue that hopefully some of you ladies can help me out with!!!

I grew up Roman Catholic, received all my sacraments, went to church regularly, even taught religion at one point. I stopped going some years back but still see myself as 'religious'. My FH on the other hand.. is totally opposite. He was only baptized and believes in God but doesn't see himself as particularly 'religious' ie Roman Catholic vs Christian.

I grew up at St. Anne's in Brentwood but it is not the prettiest church and I'm really interested in getting married at a gorgeous church!!
My dilemmas are as follows:

#1. Will we be allowed to get married in church even though FH is not quite religious? He is willing to do the whole 'Sunday School' thing in order to receive his sacraments by the time of the wedding.

#2. Will I be allowed to get married at a church outside of the one I grew up in?

Any info would be helpful.. Thanks!

Re: Church

Yes as long as one of you is catholic you can get married in a catholic church. as long as neither of you have been married before in the catholic church i believe or in a christian church i think. I'm catholic and FI is church of england and we're having a catholic wedding in a RC church.

As far as having it at a church that is not your parish, it depends on the church you want to get married in whether or not they will take you. In general you're not supposed to get married in a church that is not your parish but they make exceptions. I know we were rejected before since I was not part of a churches parish which was really upsetting but then were accepted by another that was not my parish!

So good luck!

And my congregation (in wantagh) only requires baptismal certificate to get married in their church. so depending if you switch your FH may not have to do Sunday school.

Re: Church

Most churches will allow an 'outsider' to get married at their parish.

Do you mind letting me know which church? Thanks :)

Re: Church

My parents have since moved since I lived with them and now belong to Maria Regina in Seaford as opposed to St. Rose of Lima where I grew up. We got married and did pre cana in Maria Regina, but just had to pay slightly more (or should I say 'donate' slightly more) because we were outsiders to the parish (my DH belonged to St. Joseph the Worker in Patchogue and that was too far out east for us). Maria Regina required an updated baptismal certificate that listed the dates of all of our sacraments.

HTH...

Might want to check the Inn at New Hyde Park, it's not too too far from that church I mentioned. The place is beautiful!

Re: Church

I think you will be able to find one that will let him get married without the scaraments, but if he really wants to get them then I'd suggest he do the process with the priest so you are able to form a relationship with the preist doing the mass -- it may make it more special with the personal touch.
