I wanted to add - that my church doesn't differentiate since you can only be married there if you are an active member of the cathedral. They have a new non wedding factory policy - if you are not an active member for a while (not just a few months) the dean will simply not allow you to marry there. They only do about 10 weddings a year

just to give you the other side...

I didn't get married at a church...but at my hall...and for the hour (30 min hospitality...they did pass champagne, sparkling water and fresh fruit...and 30 mins for ceremony) and it was $1000...

if our friends didn't perform the ceremony...I'm sure that would have been an extra $500...

so in the end it seems to work out...

wow - I thought mine was bad - it sounds about average! We are members of my church, so it was $350 for the priest, $500 refundable deposit, $100 for the custodian and $100 for the coordinator (who is senile and screwed up our entrances the day of ) $7 for each isle candle (we used 14).

My church in NYC was going to run about $1200 I think - that was 2 years ago. It covered the officiant, the wedding coordinator, the organist and the janitorial crew.

Instead, we decided to have DH's friend, who is a priest, marry us at his church - I think it was $350 or $400 plus a $100 'late fee' deposit that would be refunded as long as we started the ceremony within 5 or 10 minutes of the scheduled time. This was because they had so many problems in the past with brides arriving 45 minutes or more late, creating problems such as the organist having to leave to play at another wedding. Hubby said Father Tom was giving him the $100 back before I even got there, because he knew we'd be more or less on time

$450 including the $100 deposit that will be refunded the day of the wedding if the ceremony starts on time. Out of the actual $350: $75 for organist.
I completely disagree with the way RVCD handles this. Each church is allowed to ask for a 'donation' of whatever value they choose. Then don't forget Pre-Cana. This topic really irks me.

I am getting married at my hall by my pastor and there isn't a set fee. Just a donation that is left up to the couple.

We also have to meet with the pastor a few times.....no charges involved!

My Church has a 680 dollar 'donation' which includes the organist and singer. But PreCana was extra.
