Re: Church Brides - Simple Ceremony or Full Mass?
Just a ceremony. We're getting married at FH's church in Flushing because it was really important to him but the reception is in Woodbury so it's a little bit of a drive. The ceremony works best with our time frame.

I wanted a full mass but our priest denied us because we don't go to church every Sunday... SO I guess ceremony it is.
are you for real!!! i would have asked to speak with someone above him! they can not deny you this when you are paying a donation because you don't go to church every sunday! how many of us can claim we do?

i'm having the full mass. we actually had to 'shop around' to find a church who would give us a full mass on a sunday since most will only do a ceremony on a sunday

we did a full mass- it was only 45 min (it probably helped that i told the priest that we were working against the sun, so that i could get outdoor pics)

Re: Church Brides - Simple Ceremony or Full Mass?
we just did a ceremony.... my side is Episcopalian so my family wouldn't have been able to receive communion in the Catholic church (don't even get me STARTED on that) so our priest actually suggested just the ceremony.
And we both did not feel skipping the full mass took away from the sanctity or importance of the ceremony at all. We still had all the readings, unity candle, prayers, etc. ...pretty much just skipped communion.

Yeah I understand the whole Communion thing but I think it's unfair... I'm going to tell his side to just take it... He's Baptist I'm Catholic, the Communion represents the same ideals to both of us... Sigh I'll never fully understand why there are such differences among Christian denominations haha
Thank you for the feedback girls... I like the idea that one lady said about having a full mass because 'what's the rush?' Hehehehe I want to make the day last as looooong as possible for me, you only get married once right?! (I hope! )

FH is Catholic and would prefer a fullmass but I am not, so it'll probably be a interfaith ceremony.

Ceremony only for us because we are having a family friend marry us and he is a Deacon.

We are doing a full mass. FH's dad is a lutheran pastor, and he is doing our wedding. If we didn't have a full mass I feel like it would be almost disrespectful to him.

We're just doing a ceremony. FH and his family are Episcopal, but we're getting married in a Catholic church. So half of our BP and guests wouldn't even be able to receive communion.
Did any of your family members give you a hard time about this?
My FH is Baptist and agreed to get married in my Catholic church but our deacon told us he won't offer Communion to anyone outside of my family... So to keep it from being awkward I agreed to only do the ceremony, I dont think its right to refuse it to my FH but that's another story...
Just not sure how to handle telling my family that we will only be doing a ceremony... I want to find a gentle, respectful but still firm way of saying: I am not going to take Communion without my husband on our wedding day
lol

I'm not sure how this works with 2 Christian denominations when one is Catholic, but is there any way to have a Baptist officiant there as well who can offer communion to FH's family?
Otherwise, that's all you have to tell your family. The priest won't let us both have communion, so no one will. End of story. It doesn't have to be gentle. The turth is short and sweet.

The deacon said that his pastor is more than welcome to come in and say a prayer or two, but he said that neither would be offered Communion... apparently I have to sign a document that states I will not be re-baptized into another church and I will raise my children Catholic.
Other than that the only major difference is I have to write a letter to the bishop and explain why I am marrying outside of my 'faith' and hope that it gets approved lol
It just stinks though because his father was Roman Catholic so I was hoping that it might make a difference... apparently not.
and you're so right about keeping it short and sweet, I'm in a rough place with my parents because they want to help with the finances a little and even though I say no, the money would really help, but i almost will feel an obligation to do what they want because they are helping out, you know what I mean? lol imma mess today haha

I'm just doing a ceremony, FH family isn't Catholic so I didn't want to make them sit through it.
