We are getting married in a catholic church. We are not doing a mass. I want to get moving after the church to take pics at the Planting Fields & be sure we can get to the CH on time. So my question is.....
Do we NEED to do the receiving line at the church??

Re: Church Ceremony question...
It's not something that is titally necessary but more tradition. It has nothing to do with ceremony. It's more of a way to thank people fior coming to your ceremony and to have them congratulate you.

It's not that you NEED to, it is something traditionally done..I was in a wedding last year as a bridesmaid and at the end, there was no receiving line...however, my husband was there, along with the other people as guests, and he did say that everyone was just waiting around, assuming that the bride and groom would come out...if there is a way to let your guests know that you wont be having one (perhaps state it at the end of your program), that would probably be best.

It's not necessary, but I'd find it very difficult not to. I think guests expect it at a church, so you'd need an usher or someone directing them out the door.
ETA: Also, it helped because we at least got to say hello to everyone and we got to enjoy CH and the wedding more.

Re: Church Ceremony question...
It's a little hard not to do since people doe xpect it. there may be people at the ceremony and not the reception and you'd have no chance to greet them. I had a LOT of people only at the church.
My receiving line though took like 40 minutes and it really cut into picture time and I did not make it to my CH...

FH said we need to thank everyone for coming but I thought we would thank everyone at the cocktail hour... FHs family is very traditional which is why I think he wants to do this. I don't think anyone is coming JUST to the church so we would see everyone at the CH. it will really screw things up if it turns in 40 mins

Re: Church Ceremony question...
We weren't going to have a receiving line but we have people coming to the church and not the reception...so we will that it is a nice way to saw thank you....we are hoping its 10-20 minutes since it is a Friday wedding and there may not be that many at the church.
