FH wants to put 2:30 or 2:45 on the invite because his family is always late and he wants everyone to be there on time. We've been to a few weddings were the invite said 2:30 and it didn't start until 3pm, for example.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Church Ceremony Time
if they are known for being late then do it...Ive answered before that i wouldn't do it bc the thing is that some guests actually show up early so that would inconvenience them by waiting even longer BUT my friend went to a wedding recently and during the ceremony SOOOO many ppl came late and was disrupting the ceremony so might be a good idea if your FH anticipates them showing up late

Re: Church Ceremony Time
Hopefully his family will try their hardest to get to your wedding on time but if you're both concerned about stragglers then I would put the time as 15 minutes prior to the actual start time. Does that make sense??

Re: Church Ceremony Time
I want to ask the Church if I can start 10 min late this way it gives a few min, I think a half hour might be too long though. (I'm going tomorrow so I'm going to ask then)

I agree half an hour is TOO much...like i mentioned before, if ppl see on the invite that it says 2:30 theyre gonna expect it to start then and although some show up late MANY do make sure to get there even earlier and get a good seat. So if you put 30 mins earlier then those who get there early will be waiting around for lets say 45 mins and lets hope others dont plan to show up 30 mins before the time you have on the invite, which would mean they are waiting for an hour.
Telling the church to start late is actually an excellent idea, one of the best ideas ive heard in a while. I think i am gonna do this, this way those who show up early aren't inconvenienced and it gives time for ppl to show up late

Re: Church Ceremony Time
I like the idea of starting a few minutes late too- instead of changing the time. I like
AT THREE O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON
rather than
AT TWO FOURTY-FIVE IN THE AFTERNOON
And, my family is always early I guess somethings you just have to hope go over smoothly & everyone cooperates!

Re: Church Ceremony Time
FH's family is always late too I do not think I would persoanlly do that simply because it is sort of not fair to those who arrive on time

Re: Church Ceremony Time
My Ceremony starts at 7pm I am putting 6:30pm on the invites, because our RH gives us a half our grace period for guests to arrive, and get settled in. So our ceremony should start promptly at 7 sharp
Maybe you can talk to the church and see if they will allow a grace period and see if they would allow guests to arrive at 2:45pm instead of 3pm, at least that will give people an extra 15 minutes

Re: Church Ceremony Time
We were told to put a half in hour before on the invitations. Our wedding is starting at 6- our officiant and DOC both suggested we put 5:30 on the invitations, so no one will be walking in as I'm walking down the aisle.
* They also said that people like to have some time to mingle- say hi to each other and then to find their seats. So that gives them 30 minutes-if they are exactly on time.

Re: Church Ceremony Time
If you anticipate people being late, I would put an earlier time on the invites. You don't want your ceremony to be disrupted by people walking in late.

Re: Church Ceremony Time
we might put the real start time (which for me is 1pm) and then maybe add a note on the directional card or other info card etc in the invite packet (or maybe just word of mouth). i just hope that i show up on time!!!!
but i think asking the church to start late is a good idea if that works for u and the timing of other stuff.

Re: Church Ceremony Time
FH's family is ALWAYS late but my family is always early. I have been known to say 'I'm walking down the aisle at 4pm. If you're not there, you'll miss it and you'll be sitting in the balcony!' Of course I always say this in a joking manner, but FH knows that I'm serous!!

Re: Church Ceremony Time
we're putting eleven o'clock in the morning, and starting the ceremony at exactly 11am. because some of our family members are going to be late regardless...even if we put a time on the invite that's an hour earlier, someone will inevitably be late, lol

Re: Church Ceremony Time
WOW! Glad to see a lot of others have thought about this too... I'm going to ask the church to start a bit later. And, stress to FH family to please be on time... My family is always early so that's good. Really, when the doors open to the church & I see FH I won't care WHO is there
