church dispute

Ok help me out girls! My church is in Queens and I grew up there. Went to school there, parents were married there as well as both sets of grandparents. BUT they recently renovated the church and there little aisle left. They moved the altar up and made the pews circle it. The center aisle is very short and the baptismal font is dead center (can't be moved). So when my dad and I walk down the aisle, we will have to separate.

My mom is dead set on me getting married in that church or at least at a church in our neighborhood. But My fiance's church is right near the reception. Its a gorgeous church and I'd rather get married there. I see my mom's point about it being OUR church but it drives me crazy about that aisle. What would you do??

Maybe you should take her to see your FH's church so she can see how beautiful it is - that may help sway her!

My church is the same way, except it has a long aisle, my dad and I are not separating we will walk together aroudn the font!

I agree, take her to teh church if that is where you want to get married. But realize that for you to get married outside your parish you have to get a letter of permission/freedom from teh church and some can give you a very hard time about it, especially if you/or your family are a current active memebers!

I must admit that though FHs church was nicer than mine, I went with mine because I have a sentimental attachment to it being that I've gone there for so long. BUT, it's YOUR DAY -- do what makes YOU (and FH) happy. If you don't feel like you HAVE to get married there because of all the family history, and you know that you won't regret not getting married there later, then DON'T.

FH and I are so fed up with people trying to tell us this or that about our wedding (and all the stress it's causing) that we've adopted this mentality quite strongly lately. That's why I'm so emphatic about it. I want to yell it out to all brides!! Do you whatever makes YOU happy -- not others!!

I really do love my church but it kinda ruins it that on my weddign day I wont be able to walk down the aisle. I dont even think that the photographer would be able to get a good shot of it. And how does my wedding party walk down?? UGH!! The more I think of it the more upset I get.

I would move it to his church. That sounds like not too good of a setup. But do it where you feel most comfortable. Remember it's your's and ur FH's choice.

I would move it. My church was like that, and my mom felt the same way, but it was just too important to me to have my wedding the way I and very important I (no one else) pictured it.

Is there a way that your officiant can get 'visiting rights' (not sure of the correct term) at your FH's church? That might ease some of your family's concerns.

I would absolutely change churches. This is a decision you and FI have to make and if you both agree that his church is a better option well that is all the matters in the end. That moment of those church doors opening and then walking down the aisle is what I am going to treasure more than anything, you shouldn't compromise that experience for anyone, not even your parents. Your parents will come around. They will have to respect your decision.

i would do what makes you happy!! this is your day and although you want to make your mom happy you have to be the most satified with the day. i actually almost gave into having my wedding at my dh church because his grandmother wanted it that way. but i loved my church and think its amazing so i stuck to my opinion and now everyone agrees when they see the pictures. you can see in my pics in my review that a beautiful church really makes the difference on the pics
