Church Issue

Church Issue

My FH and I have our hearts set on the Crescent beach club but think it's too far from our church. I have been trying to contact local Catholic churchs near the Crescent but have been told that you have to be a 'parish member' I was just wondering if anyone else is planning their ceremony in a church they are not a member in and how you were able to get around the 'member only ' rule.
I've been getting so aggrevated b/c I would prefer to just get married onsite, but my FH is extremely religious and his parents would be really upset!!

TIA

Re: Church Issue

I'm not in that situation but I would suggest going to the church you want to get married in and explain the situation. That you really want to get married in the church, but because of locality you would really love to get married in there church. Maybe even have your parish priest give them a call.

Good Luck

Re: Church Issue

I had this issue. I did not want to get married in my parents church (FH and I live in NJ now) and had to call around to churches until we found one that we both a) liked and b) would agree to marry us even though we didnt belong. It's very frustrating. I found that if you can get in and talk to a priest they are actually more open to discussing it than the receptionists that answer the phone. Also, I was v ery direct with each place I called. The first question I asked was if they would marry non-members. Most said no, but some said maybe based on the situation. I explained that I havent lived on LI in years, and that it was very important to us that we get married in a church. Eventually it worked, but I had to talk to a bunch. And I still need to get a 'letter of permission' from my home parish in NJ that says I'm allowed to get married there. Not sure if Nassau is still in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, but if so, check out their website and just start calling all of the churches in the relative vicinity. Also, maybe some of the churches in Queens are close enough? FM if you need any more help...sorry for this rambling message.

Re: Church Issue

In my hunt for a church I tried St. Aidan's in Williston Park, and they were open to marrying non-parishionners. It's not that far from the Crescent Beach Club, so there's one option for you.

I think you can try St. Gertrude's in Bayville or St. Dominic's. I'm PRETTY sure St. Dom's will let you get married there. I THINK St. Gertrude's will, too. I'm getting married at St. Edward's and having the reception at the Crescent.

Re: Church Issue

Our reception is at the Crescent and we are having our ceremony at St. Patrick's in Glen Cove. We are not parishoners. St. Pats is about 15-20 minutes from the Crescent.

My sister is getting married at St. Roccos and she is not a parishner and either is her FH. She is also a CBC bride.
