church issue **UPDATED** (long sorry)

Did anyone else have a problem booking their church? I have been calling the rectory for 5 weeks now and while the women who answer the phones are extremely nice, the priest has yet to call me back!

They keep telling me that they're leaving him messages and that he's been very busy. I

Is this normal? Should I try to find another church?

Could you go there in person?
I would be a little uneasy if I didnt speak to someone.

I asked that - they told me that the pastor does not meet with people 'off the streets' so I have to make an appointment. The woman who answers the phone told me to call tomorrow morning between 10:30 and 11:30 (before confessions) because he's usually around.

I feel bad because I had to lie and say that I haven't booked my hall yet and I'm afraid that I'll lose the date.

It's so annoying!!! I'm ready to give up and have the ceremony at my RH.

hmmmm....... after the drama I had with my church I would go there and tell them that I've called many times for weeks with no call back and that I'm getting nervous.

you know what? I'm taking a ride there tomorrow morning before confessions. I need to pin this down. I'm starting to freak out.

I called and called my church for weeks.. finally got a call back from the Deacon about 6 weeks after I first called... it took them forever!!

My FH stopped by a few times too in that time and they said they would leave more messages but the priests and deacons were never around.. They arent really around unless they are doing mass or something.

It's making me crazy! If it were any other vendor, I'd either scream and yell or say forget it!

The sad part is that neither me nor FH cares if we get married in the church - we're doing it for our parents. Wait till I meet with him and he finds out that I never made my confirmation and that neither one of us belongs to the parish!

Find a church that you're comfortable with. On Sunday I told our church secretary that we wanted to talk to our pastor about the wedding and he already called me about it.. but our pastors family is like fam to us.. I know churches are sometimes uneasy having non-active Christians, catholics, etc. get married in their church without attending (not that i agree).

It's just making me crazy because I feel like either tell me you don't want to do it, or do it. But because I never get to speak with the pastor, I can't find out one way or the other.

The really sad part was before all of this, I was thinking about going back and finally making my confirmation and had also planned to talk to the pastor when I met with him about RICA classes. Now, once again, I'm totally turned off - AND I went to catholic school!!!!

This is my mother's parish and it would mean a lot to her if I got married there. However, if I have no luck in getting through to the priest, I may call the church in my neighborhood. UGGH!

I didn't know it was your moms place.. they really should be more accomodating out of respect for her.

Re: church issue

that's what I thought. I'm sure it will all work out and I'm trying to be understanding given that there is a priest shortage and that I know it's a relatively small parish and the pastor is spread a little bit thin.

I guess give it a lil more time though.. but if you don't hear from him I would attend service on a Sunday and then approach him afterwards.

I'm heading there tomorrow morning before I go into work! If the priest isn't available, I'm not going to leave until they at least give us an appointment to meet with him! This is so frustrating!

It took my church forever too. We got engaged in July and I only just received confirmation this week that we are in the book and able to get married in the church. To think I've been working on it the past 2 1/2 months!

Re: church issue

This is really making me nuts! When I called the rectory yesterday afternoon, I was told to call back at 11 today. I figured instead of calling, I was going to stop by on my way into work. As I was leaving work last night, my boss asked if I could get in a little bit earlier, so I had to be in work before 11.

I called at 11:02 and the woman who answers the phone says to me 'oh, Gina, I'm sorry it's not going to be a good weekend to speak with Father' HUH????? She said that he had a conference and that I should try again Monday morning. He was going to have visiting priests doing the masses this weekend.

All of this and they still won't tell me over the phone if my date is even available! All I am trying to do is set up an appointment with the priest - they won't even do that for me!!!

I'm really ready to scream! If this was any other wedding vendor I would have totally lost my temper already.

by the way, I got engaged in July too
