Church meeting tonight - UPDATE

Church meeting tonight - UPDATE

FH and I are going to meet with our church for the first time and I'm sooo nervous! I'm afraid they're going to yell at me for not making my confirmation.

Do they ask you how often you go to church? What am I supposed to say if the real answer is ummm once a year???

This is all FH's fault, I would have been fine getting married at the RH. Churches scare me.

ETA:
The bad:
*We got there on time and there was no one in the office. We waited... and waited... and waited. Finally half an hour later the priest and 2 other guys showed up just as we were about to leave!
*We were in a tiny box of a room with no AC, fan or windows. FH was sweating like a beast and had to keep wiping the sweat off his face, haha.

The good:
*I don't HAVE to make my confirmation if I don't want to. It's 'recommended' but not required.
*He said,'I'm not going to ask you if you go to church. I know the answer, no one your age goes to church.' hahahah
*Precana is only 2 two hour classes. I thought it would be much longer.
*No really horrible questions, the worst one was something about vaginal sex.

But the priest seems nice and really laid back so that's good. Oh and he said 'Sh1t happens' about something which FH and I cracked up about after we left. I've never heard a priest curse. So it was definitely not as bad or as strict as I thought it was going to be (should have listened to you girls.)

I was nervous also bc me and FH never go to church, but when the priest asked I said I try to go as much as possible haha and he was like ok good.

I dont think they really care, as long as you pay their fee theyll be happy

Don't worry my FH hasn't made his confirmation, and they are not stopping us from getting married in the church. They would like you too, but FH said he doesn't want too...
Can you tell who wants to be married in the church more

Just tell them the true, we don't go to church.....I just really want to be married in the church

You'll be fine!!

Haha yeah, that's the one thing I'mwondering about... I've heard some churches make you take confirmation classes and I really don't feel like trekking up to Bayville to do that. Guess I'll find out tonight!

Do not worry! The priest is not going to yell at you for not making your confirmation- Only one member of the couple has to have made their confirmation fom what I have seen. A friend of mine married someone who was not even catholic in the church.

If it's a catholic church, they're going to make you make your confirmatin before they will marry you. But, don't worry it's not really a big deal.

As for asking if you go to church, they probably will and they'll probably tell you to go more often. But again, don't worry, they're not there to judge you and they've heard a million times worse things.

You'll be fine! We were SO nervous when we went to see the Preist. Don't know why I was so scared because it turned out to be kind of fun! And, we lied too and said we go to church when we can. I felt so bad that I lied IN a church but oh well. I think we all do it. LOL.

It will be easy. Be honest, they won't turn you down. The priest may advise you to try and go more often, and what your intention is for the children. It's really alot less pressure than I was expecting . . . but I hear pre-cana's no fun!

Yep! My priest wanted records of all of that though, baptism, confirmation, etc. My FH is Greek Orthodox (catholic church allows them to marry a catholic in a catholic church, but GO church does not reciprocate!) but had to provide the name of his parish and proof of that stuff. I find it varies. Some priests 'let things slide' and some don't, but I think you'll be fine!! It's not a biggie if you need to be confirmed, the priest may even agree to do it for you.

good luck later!!

i am dreading 'how often to you attend church ?' , as well as 'what church do you belong to?'.

our meeting is at 8:30!! long drive back home from Bayville afterwards :(

i was nervous too. it really wasn't that bad though. i did promise to go to church more often which the priest really liked. but the questions weren't as bad as i thought. it was 'have you ever been married?, did you ever take an oath not to marry?, are you going to raise your children catholic?' very basic.
good luck. let me know how it goes.

Re: Church meeting tonight

Good Luck!! I am getting married in a Catholic church and FH was only baptized and never received confirmation. All we have to do is sign a piece of paper agreeing that we will raise the children Catholic. All churches are different though. The really old school ones may want you to be confirmed.
