Does anyone know if Roman Catholic Churches in general allow musicians to be brought in for the ceremony music? I'm really not into the organ thing and thought it would be nice to bring in a guitarist or maybe string duo.
Happy Easter chicas!

Re: Church Music Question
Ours did- we had a string quartet bc I'm not a fan of the organ either.
Most churches will charge you for the organist regardless whether you use them or not though bc they are contracted, but I think most will let you hire someone else if you're willing to pay their organist still which kinda stinks

Re: Church Music Question
Mine doesn't allow outside music and i had to pick from a list for 3 to 4 songs for different parts of the ceremony.

Re: Church Music Question
I believe *most* churches will allow outside musicians (though some still make you pay the retainer for the organist) but I think they'll only allow traditional music to be played. Edited for typos!

Re: Church Music Question
all churches are different - so you should ask your church if you are allowed to bring in outside vendors.
my church allows it

Re: Church Music Question
My Church allows it too and some outside music vendors will play with the organist... so I guess its up to the church and your preference.

Re: Church Music Question
my church (St. Anthony of Padua in East Northport) said that you can have outside musicians, subject to the approval of the music director from the church. His name is Brother Fran.

Depends on the church.. Many of them require you to pay the organist if you are having outside music.

Re: Church Music Question
i dont think my church allow you to...it says no in the packet they gave us but maybe if you talked to your church. sometimes they make you pay more to do so, so you might be able to do that.

No actually my mom's friend is a elementary orchestra director, plays the cello, and she had 3 other people she knew who were able to do it for us.

Re: Church Music Question
Yes, usually they do allow it, but you still have to pay the organist at our church regardless.
