Yes, you can be married in a Catholic Church, but you would not have a full Nuptial Mass. Just a ceremony.

not true, you can still have a mass you just cant take communion. Some churches wont allow you to have mass but there are many churches who will still allow you to have a full mass regardless if one is not catholic. I am not catholic and i was given the option of doing a mass, i couldnt take communion thats all

different in your church then! those were the rules in mine.

i know exactly, thats why i said some churches dont allow you to have a full mass but there are churches who do allow it. This was reposted by OP on 09 boards and someone else mentioned not doing the full mass but me and another girl who is in same situation as me with not being catholic also said she is able to have a mass if she wants to.

When it comes to a few things, some church allow things that others don't

That was me! Our priest advised against it just because half of our guests wouldn't be receiving and it might be awkward... and I didn't like that I wouldn't be able to to we opted not to do the full mass. But he did say we could if we wanted. I went into this whole thing on the 09 board lol.

hahaha yeah same reason for us, thought it'd be awkward to only have half the guests do it and then the others who are orthodox to sit there just watching and feel left out

Re: Church Question

you are getting a LOT of misinformation on this thread. it's NOT about which church it is. there are 'rules' for this type of thing. you are a form of inter-faith marriage. there are two kinds:When a Catholic marries a non-Catholic Chrisitan (which is your case) or when a Catholic marries a non-Christian (Jew, Muslim, etc.)

in your case, yes, you can get married in the Catholic Church. your husband is Christian. All that is done is that there is a piece of paperwork that is completed by the priest noting that he is a non-Catholic. he does not need to convert, nor complete any sort of classes. you both need to complete Pre-Cana.

The Ceremony will be a Sacrament for you as the Catholic and a valid marriage in the eyes of the Church.

You will be married ON the altar.

The only thing you may not want to do is have a Mass, because as a non-Catholic, your FH and his family do not believe what Catholics believe happens during the Mass, so that might be a little awkward.

Also, when a Catholic marries a non-Catholic, but a Christian, you must get married IN the church. Catholic marriages that are recognized by the Church but done at the hall are for Catholics marrying NON-Christians ONLY as often those circumstances will mean that a rabbi or whomever won't go into a church and a deacon or priest won't go into a synagogue or mosque.

Your FH could have his Protestant minister con-celebrate if he wanted to with your priest or deacon.

HTH!

Who knows why some churches let you do somethings and some don't -- to me if it is the same religion (catholic, jewish, orthodox) then the rules should be universal to each place of worship. And I dont' mean the throwing of rose petals or aisle runners I mean yes you can have mass no you can't ... serious rules. I guess it is one of those that we will never have a straight answer to.

they are universal. it is US as the worshippers that do things that suit us and are not what we're supposed to do. you are supposed to go to Confession before you receive. it's not that the Church has eased up on that necessarily, it's because we don't do it.

Re: Church Question

Ok so I finally spoke to my priest..

We can still get married in my church but cannot have the actual mass which is fine bc we didnt want a full mass. It doesnt matter what kind of church he was baptized in as long as he was baptized.

Thanks again everyone!

oh so is this why i was able to get married ON the altar and was given the choice to have a mass, bc although i am not catholic i am still christian. I actually hadnt heard about this until today that you cant have a full mass if one is not catholic or married on the altar. Which of course i was surprised to see since i did get married on the altar and also i know we could've had a mass if we wanted to, we were asked which we're having and actually they had us down as a mass, but then when we did another meeting with the priest he went over our paper work and i had to correct him and say we're not doing a full mass
