Church Question

Church Question

Does anyone know if catholic churches (generally speaking) will let you play your own music or do you have to use their organist. I am getting married in St. Christophers Church, Baldwin.

I would like to walk down the isle to 'You Are So Beautiful' (Joe Cocker) and after ceremony for FH and I to walk out to 'At Last' (Etta James).

I was just wondering if anyone else had their own music or know what the 'rules' are.

I think it might depend on the church. my church has a whole bunch of things that you can't do.

Re: Church Question

At my church, the organist and musicians are included in the donation price. If you want to use your own organist, it is ok, but the price does not decrease. If you do use their musicians, I am not sure if you can choose your own music for them to play, or if they would even know how to play a specific song not on their list. I would call your church and ask because Evey church is probably different.

Mine won't. I have to pay a fee for the organist, outside of the 750.00 for the church. And no secular music. But that is a catholic church. Others may be less stringent.

Re: Church Question

i am getting married in a catholic church and i was told that the music had to be sacred. no secular music allowed anywhere in the ceremony. then i was told that the cost of the organist and singer were included in the offering (which is why it is so high), but if i wanted to hire my own musicians i would have to pay the full offering, plus a fee for them to use the space, plus a fee for the rehearsal that they make you have with them, and then of course you have to pay the musicians. they make it just about impossible to get other musicians.

I was married in a catholic church and used the Vintage String Quartet (highly recommended!!) for our ceremony. We were allowed any musical choices we wanted... the church didnt give us a problem
