church question

Ok so i am catholic and i want to get married in a catholic church. I belong to a perish but because of personal reasons can't get married there. I have called different perishes but they are telling me that i have to belong to them in order to get married. Does anyone have similar situation? If any of you ladies know of any church is Suffolk county that would allow you to get married there without belonging to the parish? Thank you.

Re: church question

most catholic churches will require either you and your parents to be parishioners. i'm getting married at Christ the King in Commack and I know they are like that along with St. Pat's and St. Joe's. You might have better luck at a different church that isn't catholic, like maybe a lutheran church. I believe they are less strict.

Re: church question

I'm in the same situation... but in Nassau. I drove to about 5 churches today... it seems like 1 will allow it but you need a letter from your home parish giving permission. So.... unless you just join some other church it's gonna be tough. Good Luck... I wish I could be more helpful but I'm not very Suffolk-y

:)

Re: church question

It's funny that you ask that because this morning we went to book the church (which is in my old neighborhood where I grew up - we haven't been there in about 12 years) and I asked the woman in the rectory if I needed to do anything special since I don't belong to that parish anymore and she said no. I really thought I had to but was glad that I didn't.

Re: church question

My church is in Queens, so I can't really help, but sometimes churches will let you get married there if you have a personal connection. For example, mine isn't MY church, but it's my Grandmother's. Do you have any relatives who don't go to your parish? Maybe they could get you in!

It's actually in Queens (I don't know if it matters), St Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone Park.

Edit: I just realized that you asked for a Suffolk church. Sorry it doesn't help

what parish does your mother belong too? my parents joined CTK bc I wasn't going to since we live in CT now. i would see if your parents joining would be acceptable, which i'm sure it would be or what about fh's church?

Re: church question

Girl... I'm right there with you! I fell in love with a church... they flat out said NO. You have to live in Farmingdale to even register.

Ugh You'd think the Christian way would be more open!!!

Re: church question

Im having chruch problems as well!!!
I am a Christian so automatically I knew that all Catholic churches were out! But non-catholic churches also have ALOT of restrictions. The church that I belong to doesnt have a center aisle (just 2 side aisles) so my quest began simply die to the aisle problem. But lately I've been feeling like giving up and settling for the side aisle. Not my dream entrance...but finding a church is becoming the only stress factor (so far!!)

Re: church question

You have enough time before your wedding to become a parishioner elsewhere if you want. Or what about your fh's church?

If all else fails FM me, I may have someone for you. My priest (who is also ordained as a bishop) is very helpful and evolved in his ways of thinking and may offer his church to you :)

Re: church question

Try St Pats in Bayshore. I got married there and I am not a member. It costs a bit more than if you were a member and the only requirement was that I could not book a date more than a year in advance but try anyway.

Re: church question

That is so weird you girls are having problems. I am not getting married in my church (i'm not very religious and think my church isn't that nice but my mom won't have me not getting married in a catholic church) and the church I am getting married in said all we need is our baptismal certificates. We are getting married in St. Thomas the Apostal in West Hempstead. They were great they didn't give us any problems. We are even bringing in our own priest.
