Is anyone else getting married in a church that frowns upon strapless gowns? Of course my gown and all BM gowns are strapless and I need to figure out a resolution.

Re: Church Rules
maybe a shawl to cover up while at church? the wedding ceremony won't take long any way and you would have lots of time to take photos without it.

Re: Church Rules
a lot of strict catholic, and greek orthodox churchs will make you cover your shoulders
. As long as the Girls have shawls you should be ok,... there are some reallty cute bolero jackets that are made specifically for this reason.

Re: Church Rules
My BM dresses are on the pricey side and I didn't want to have to make the girls spend even MORE money. Ughhh. The church is not strict, it's actually the particular priest's wish. Uggghhh.

Re: Church Rules
What about having spaghetti straps for the girls just for the ceremony? They can detach them after it is over. If you are wearing a veil, ask if the veil is acceptable to keep your shoulders covered.

Re: Church Rules
Nope, but I've heard of this before. I'd go for shawls or pashminas for the girls. It's such a stupid rule though- as if spaghetti straps make any difference at all?

Re: Church Rules
go to some cheap place like tri county and get the $5 pashminas... in whatever color, for you see if the bridal shop can add lace cap sleeves that detach aferwards.
yeah spaghetti straps dont really 'cover' the shoulders....

Re: Church Rules
Thanks. I know that spaghetti straps don't really cover...but for some reason I think it's allowed. (Some of the larger chested ladies might want to keep the straps on anyway). I was just told no strapless...and I may just cover my shoulders with the veil. It is SUCH a stupid rule - I agree. The priest didn't make a big deal about it, he was pretty vague. He is a young and contemporary priest so I think I am going to be vague as well.

Yes I guess shawls would be the best answer...thanks. I had already bought the dress before I booked the church.

Re: Church Rules
My cousin had to deal with this when she got married. She went to this little store in Lindenhurst,NY and they made a little jacket that matched her dress and then she went out and got shawls for the bridesmaids.

I'm very surprised he even mentioned this since he is young and contemporary. Though, maybe thats why, he is a rookie and didn't know to keep his mouth shut! IMHO (h for honest and humble :)) that's just ridiculous, what century are we living in? I'm sure you are making a good enough donation (read: they are requesting you pay lol) that they should just let this one go.

Re: Church Rules
I've heard of more religious catholics frowning upon this, I know the vatican still enforces this rule but I didn't think any churces on Long Island still did?
