So I booked the Somerley at fox hollow in woodbury and St Patrick's in bayshore, now here's the problem the church is at 2:30 I'm doing a full mass so I don't know what time I'll get out but the ch is at 7:30. We got a good deal at fh and they threw in an extra hour so it's over at 1:30. So my questions are this.....
*** do I do with the in between time?
Should I switch the church or the hall? The latest we can do the ceremony is 2:30 and fh won't budge ch start because they said so, a change would be a different venue all together?
If I wanted to supply my guest with somewhere in between any suggestions?
Is this too long of a day all together for guests it's 11 hours between the ceremony start and reception end?
Please help:(

Re: Church stress, reception hall stress, questions!!
St Pat's does a 4:00 wedding as well. I don't know if that time was available on your day. Full mass only takes an hour (same as a regular mass). I'm getting married there with a 4:00 full mass and I HAVE TO be out of there before 5:30 because they have a regular mass at that time. I would talk to the church and see if you can change it to 4:00.
There are things to do, but I think it's really long between the ceremony and CH. OOT guests can go back to the hotel and hang out - maybe see if you can set something up with the hotel to give the guests a place to hang out.

Re: Church stress, reception hall stress, questions!!
It would be more convenient to have the ceremony a little bit later, but what you're doing isn't unheard of.
I went to a wedding like that, I noticed a lot more people at the reception than the ceremony. It was a bit of a drag to wait, but it was ok. I think most people go back to the hotel, or maybe go home. I think we picked up a bite to eat but i can't remember.
Fox Hollow has a bar from what I remember?. Maybe you can rent it out for a bit?
Can you move cocktail hour up one hour to 630? instead of having the party till 130 have it till 1230?

We asked about moving it earlier but my bm wouldn't change it. Something about the flow of things I liked the idea of renting out a bar but four hours ?

Re: Church stress, reception hall stress, questions!!
I spoke with Father Tom. He asked us which we would prefer, and due to being able to be at the RH an hour before CH, I wanted the later time. You should call and ask about changing times if it's possible for your date (which it should be due to it not being until the very end of next year).

You can see about having a hospitality hour for early guests.

i would try and change it for 4pm, that's too much of a time gap in between.

Re: Church stress, reception hall stress, questions!!
I'm getting married at 2pm in Woodside, Queens and my reception at the Watermill is at 7:30. Since the time of the year is the same as mine, I'm not too worried about too much time. Figure with the full mass and the receiving line and pictures at the church, I'm aiming to leave by 345 the latest b/c, at that time of year, there's very little sunlight left. FH and I are going to go off and take pictures nearby to utilize at much natural light and possible. We're sending the parents to the hotel to rest before meeting us at the hall for indoor photos. Still debating if I want to do the same with the bridal party. I think you'll be ok. I'm not sure what the distance is from Bayshore to Woodbury - at least 1/2 hour? My distance is at least an hour!! And I figure my guests will see the invitations and they can do what they would like. I have family coming from out of town so they can all rest at the hotel before going to the hall for early drinks

Re: Church stress, reception hall stress, questions!!
My church is at 3 and my cocktail hour doesn't start till 8 at the FH. Our church ceremony is 50 minutes. I'm not worry, a lot of our guests are in the area with only a few people coming from LI. But they can easily go home, relax a bit and then get ready.
I've been to weddings where the ceremony is early in the afternoon and the reception doesn't start til later. We just went home, rested and then got dressed for the evening. It wasn't bad and the time actually went very fast.
If you can change the church time - great!
