Church Time Dilemma (I hope this doesn't start anymore drama with time gaps lol)

Church Time Dilemma (I hope this doesn't start anymore drama with time gaps lol)

So our church ceremony (full mass which we def want) is currently scheduled for 3:30, cocktail hour at 7. We figured that since it's the first Friday of the month, most Catholic Schools have a half day and we figured it wouldn't be a problem to move the ceremony to 3. This way it would go from 3-4:30, Pictures from 5-6:30 (possibly at OWG) then make it back to JT at 7. FH wants to go into the cocktail hour for a little as well as the bridal party and I hope to be having my hair put up during this time before the reception at 8. I'm not going into the cocktail hour, I really want my hair put up for the reception so it's off my face and I can feel cooler hopefully when dancing. So apparently St. Christopher's does not have a half day on First Fridays (I'm currently trying to call the school to confirm this). Appparently the students get out at 3 and the woman I spoke to from the Parish said it would possibly be chaos with parking, etc. Moving it to 3:30 pushes everything back a half hour. The sun sets on that day at 6:34 I believe so a half hour of our pictures would be in dark if we do pay to go to OWG. We'd make it to JT at 7:15, with seeing the room and getting settled, only half hour left for cocktail hour and to get my hair put up. I really don't want to be rushed and was so happy with the possibility that I thought would work with moving the ceremony to 3. The woman I spoke to said I could still ask the priest and maybe he'll do it, FH doesnt think so though. But, if we do move it up are we crazy to have the Mass start when the school lets out (I'm also trying to find out the exact time from the school so I know for sure)? Is pushing it back a half hour going to screw up a lot with it being dark and rushing back to JT for the reasons mentioned above? The church is 21 min away from OWG and OWG is about 10 min from JT. I really don't want to switch the church, I love it, I'm so torn as to what to do. Please pass along any feedback, thanks so much!

Mini-update: I just got through to the school, dismissal is at 3 and 3:05. She said the buses are by the school parking lot though and not across the street by the Church parking lot, do you think that helps?. Hopefully there is a possibility that it's not too hectic and the priest will do it for us. I just don't want to get my hopes up again and then be stuck. I want to ask the priest in person on a Saturday after mass. However we're prob going to be in SI for the next couple of weekends, so unfortunately I may have to wait. Unless I can't take it and I just call to speak with him directly....Sorry so long!!

Your too funny that you checked the sunset time on your day! I am SO doing this now, I didn't even think about it!

I don't think the half hour is going to make a huge difference but if it bothers you, try to change the time. Is there anyway they could start it at 3:15? If not, I would say talk to the priest and see if he could schedule the 3, do that! In my experience, church NEVER starts on time anyway, so you most likely wouldnt get in the church right at 3. Good luck!

Ok i would either forgo the mass which will give you an additional hour or up the cocktail hour to 7:30...

Hmm the cocktail hour suggestion would maybe be a possibility. However the wedding is already going until 1am bc we have the VH, so then it'd be til 1:30, I guess what's another half hour. Then, though, there's still the issue of a half hour of pics being in the dark. Anyone know what they're doing, any winter brides where the sun sets early anyway, are you just focusing on taking pics inside for that, how is it handled usually?

would you be willing to have your church at 2?? this way you will have more sun light since you are concerned about pictures being in the dark. although the problem there would be that your church would be ending at the same time as school dismissal & you might not like that idea. maybe church at 2:15 so by time your mass is over all the kids & parents should have left already.

Would it be possible to not have a full mass but get married in the church? Then you could have the ceremony from 3:30-4:00 (or 4:30) however long that takes... then still get back on track for pictures at 5:00

Having the mass is so important to us, I know that'd prob be the easiest solution but both our mothers would have heart attacks and most importantly we really do want it. We're both practicing Catholics and it's just something we always expected to have. Ugh I don't know....

Hmmm could you or FH swing by there one day around 3:00 just to see how much of a disaster it really is there with parking at that time?

Maybe it won't be that bad.

huh.,.... thats a good question to ask.

I'm also getting married on a Friday at 3 in sept. I never thought about the parking or school bus situation!

If the buses arn't in your parking lot I don't think it will be a big deal to move it up. I like the idea of 3:15 start time as well. I would also definatly go and check what kind of chaos it looks like at that time too.

About JT, I am pretty sure they have set start times... 7pm and 8:30... I know bc I got stuck with the 8:30 and they wouldn't budge to move it any earlier. BC they do more than one wedding at a time, they have particular start itmes so the kitchen doesn't get backed up.

Yes this is my next thought, unfortunately the next day FH and I would be available to do this is not until Friday July 17th. We both took off for his cousin's wedding which is at night. I hate to wait that long but oh well, better than nothing. I'm just hoping that the church will move it and it won't be that bad. I hate waiting to find out for sure, thanks for the input!

That's a good idea! I would definitely check out the church and see how crazy the parking lot it, that could make all the difference!

do you or him have a family member that can check it out for you sooner? We all know what it is like to be waiting to organize something for the wedding day.... I am so impatient

I bet it's fine for you since your church has that time offered to you. Ours is offered as 3:30, I just bet that the timings of school getting let out is different for our two churches. I bet for yours they just get out earlier that's why you got offered 3. To be honest I always remember getting let out the latest at 2:45 so I was surprised by the 3 let out time for St. Christophers, figures! lol

You're right about JT, I bet that wouldn't work, I really want to move the church time, I hope it can happen. I'm not sure if anyone can get there sooner, maybe his dad.

Hey,
I just wanted to let you know that on Friday July 17th, school wouldn't be in session- so you won't get an idea of what the traffic will be like.

Just wanted to remind you of that!

Ok don't worry about the kids.. because if your mass starts at 3:00 and the kids get out at 3:00.. your guests should already be in the church seated and you should be walking down that isle around 3:05 (if everything starts on-time) besides that... if the students do see you... imagine what is going to go through all those little girls heads when they see this beautiful bride standing there... they're going to think of YOU when they get married (seeing a bride after school will do that to a child- lol)

but I'd def ask the priest if you can do it.

Some people may say it's 'only half an hour'.. but during that half hour it's going to start getting dark. I might have the same problem as I'm a week after you (but my church is at 1, but we're going to 2 or 3 places to do pics - FH doesn't know that yet)

What does your gut tell you to do?

i think that if the ceremony starts at 3. most of your guests will get to the church around 2:30 or so and be settled in by 3 so it shouldn't really be too much of chaos outside.

so if your priest agrees to it. i say have it start at 3, so you won't be too rushed.

sorry bout the dilemma...all my suggestions have been given already....though maybe if the church is the most imp. part u can possibly take pictures someplace closer like the Garden City Gazebo and that might cut your time a bit!

btw is that the St. Christopher's in Baldwin???....that's where im getting married!!
