Church Trouble PLEASE HELP I NEED IT!

Original post by RedtoWed

so
i am catholic and want to get married in a church and originally wanted to get married in my home church. i love it and have a priest that i love and it's really beautiful and scencic. .. i tried to book WAY in advance but my date was taken (a sunday so they only book one wedding that day)... so i was upset, and tried to get married somewhere else.. problem is, no one would marry me because i'm not in their parish. i called back my parish and the MEAN (head) priest was like 'fine.. i'll put you in at 3PM for a ceremony only (no mass)' .... my concern is that the other bride's wedding is at 4PM that same day. i know a ceremony is only 30 mins but still!!!! i asked him, well, begged him to do it at 230 but he was very rude mean and forceful and told me NO! i don't know what to do.. nowhere else will marry me and i'm really uncomfortable with this situation??

Thoughts? PLEASE HELP

Does anyone know any cute churches in my area that might marry me (floral park, ny)
i've already tried:
st joes garden city
st annes garden city
notre dame nhp
our lady of snows queens
st gregs queens
st hedwigs floral park
holy spirit nhp

thanks girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

try st. brigids in westbury. my friend is getting married there and she isnt in the parish. the priest specifically told her they cant turn people away -- it's their job to give sacraments.

I second this. And the church is GORGEOUS.

And St Peters of Alacantra (sp) in Port Washington. Also gorgeous and I know they're not crazy strict about marrying people from outside.

Try calling Mary's Nativity in Flushing. We are not members of the parish and we got married there. The pastor is very nice and accommodating. He is a bit hard to get a hold of but does return phone calls.

Good Luck!

Try St. THomas in West Hempstead....the main church is beautiful and I am pretty sure that they marry those that aren't parishioners!!

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!

BTW, Father Andy at St. Thomas is wonderful, so if you do have it there ask for him!!

Yes he is. I am taking my confirmation classes at St Thomas, as well, and Fr. Andiy (this is not a misspelling ) does some of our classes. He is truly wonderful!!!

If a priest is not available you can try a Deacon. Deacon John at St. Thomas is wonderful as well.

FYI I called St. Brigids back in September and the lady who answered the phone was VERY rude and wouldn't let me speak to a priest or give me the name of someone I could to talk to. I finally got through to the person who handles the weddings there (she was VERY nice) but she told me that they do not book weddings for non-parish memebers until 6 months before your wedding date. Meaning you wouldn't know if they would be your church until 6 months before your wedding. They have to give parish members first priority.

try church of st. joseph in babylon. we had a similar problem with my own church, so we looked into st. joes. they were so nice and accommodating to people outside of their parish.

St Brigid's WAS my parish.Last year I had the exact same experience with a very rude woman answering the phone who wouldn't let me speak to a priest.( I also got attitude while trying to donate clothes and toys there too,but that's another story.. .)
anyway,I needed to confirm my date right away, because the hall was holding 5/24/09 for only a week(memorial day sunday)Long story short ,she had ANOTHER rude woman ( I guess MS Supervisor-Nasty )finally call me back, who basically stated that I had to follow the rules-NO EXCEPTIONS which were 'Leave my name and number and a priest will call me in a week to 10 days-then they will set up an appointment to meet and then we could pick a date' -I was trying to explain that it was a popular date and we needed an answer asap, maybe could I set an appointment with her or speak to the head priest who I personally know??She told me NO and I was also told not to hold my breathe for that date because they only do Sunday weddings early in the afternoon or something that wouldn't coordinate with my evening reception.I was so disheartened because it was mine and FHs parish,it is beautiful, all our friends got married there and it was also my dream to get married there-long story short I found St Barnabas in Bellmore. The priest made an appointment over the phone, knowing I wasn't a member .They are a beautiful church and the people are so nice . They didn't need us to be members of the parish, but I switched anyway.Good luck,I know how upsetting it can be-but you may want to try St Barnabas-they welcomed us with open arms and they have in home pre-cana with some really fantastic people which we just completed.
