Re: CHURCH WONT LET.......
I am not allowed to have a runner... 'because the church has carpet and it's a distraction'.... and I wanted a runner too!
We can't throw anything either. I was thinking just throwing birdseed or wedding rice anyway. I want the tradition so bad. I was talking to my mom about this earlier today how I can't even have what she had 27 yrs ago.
I was thinking about going to the church my parents got married at (St. Thomas More) to see what kind of rules they have these days. I am still sticking with my church but I am curious.
Oh, and if my flowergirl throws petals, someone has to clean them up afterwards.
Why are the churches being so strict these days?

Re: CHURCH WONT LET.......
i've heard of churches charging a cleanup fee....like $100......just be sure if your gonna do it anyway, that you keep the petals hidden from sight, and that someone quitely passes them out outside so that some church lady doesnt make a scene trying to stop you and ruin your day

I dont know... I'd feel really uncomfortable scheming and lying to a church. Maybe you can do a grand exit at your rh and people can throw stuff at you then.

Re: CHURCH WONT LET.......
THANKS GIRLS I THINK I MAY SPEAK WITH MY PRIEST AND EXPLAIN HOW IMPORTANT THE TRADITION IS TO ME AND TELL HIM WE WILL CLEAN UP AFTERWARDS AND SEE HOW THAT GOES IF NOT IDK WHAT I WILL DO. CHANGING CHURCHES ISNT REALLY AN OPTION BECAUSE WE ALREADY SET OUR DATE AND FH AND I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE MARRIED AT THI CHURCH, ALSO MY CHURCH THAT I BELONG TO HAS THE SAME POLICY

You have to pay for cleanup, and they'll get real angry if you throw stuff. Its messes up the grounds, and birds can die from eating rice . . . my church has the same policy.

Re: CHURCH WONT LET.......
The problem with throwing birdseed is that the birds make a mess if there is no one to clean up right away. The rice actually kills the birds. When the birds eat the rice, it expands in their little bellies and they die. Most churches don't want you to throw much. Maybe you can see if they can throw rose pedals. My sister did that and it looked awesome in pictures. She has a couple of black and white shots with only the pedals in color. It looks really pretty.

I'm having bells passed around, my grandparents helped pay for the church bell and I thought it was a nice (and clean) way to pay tribute to that and still have something presentational and special.

That s u c k s that your church wont let you throw anything, but my advice to you is if they said no, dont do it. Why risk having the church lady or even the priest cause a scene if they see the petals, rice, birdseed, etc being passed around.
If possible, see if you can have someone clean up and see if the church is ok with that. If that doesnt work, try the bell suggestion that someone mentioned or even get those ribbon wands.

I feel like they just say that. I mean what is someone going to stand guard and yell if you throw rose pedals?. I can understand rice since they say it's a choking hazard to birds, but why not pedals?? I saw just go for it

Re: CHURCH WONT LET.......
What about ribbons - I will try to find a pic but they make for a great photo op and no clean up
yeah. my church isn't allowing any of these things either. They say the isle runner and rose petals in the church is out for safety reasons so no one slips. I actually thought the isle runner was a religious tradition. they're not allowing rice or petals to be thrown. At Michaels I saw something called Wedding rice. it's little white hearts and it's safe for birds. I might do that or bubbles. Ribbon wands could be cool too! I have no problem cleaning it up myself. i really wanted my FG to drop petals in the church.
