Civil Ceremony

Civil Ceremony

I just found out yesterday that my darling dear and I need to have a civil ceremony ASAP. Our official day is July 11. I remember reading awhile back about a judge in riverhead that will marry couples for a very small fee. I've called a few and they all want $100 and up. Does anyone know of any judges that will officiate not too expensively. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Re: Civil Ceremony

You can go to your town hall or city hall (if you live in one of the 5 boroughs) and get a marriage license. Wait 24 hours and go back and you can get married civilly. The license is good for 60 months.

No need to go to a judge like what you mention really, unless you want to. And you'll still need the marriage license.

Read this - it's from this website.

How to get Married in NYS

You might fare better just going to the town hall or city hall nearest you and getting the licnese and then going back 24 hours later and getting married, if you need to do it soon.

Good luck!

Re: Civil Ceremony

I actually called Town of Brookhaven, and I was told I could get the license, but they don't perform weddings there. They can give me a list of officiants, which I already got off the Smithtown Clerk's website, and all of them charge a fee. I always thought you could just go to the town hall for a ceremony but I guess I was mistaken.
