Classless Election Coverage 7PM STATES ARE IN
I decided to start the pre show. We need to give the most relibale coverage here on LIW and several states are going to come in in just a few minutes7pm: Vermont, Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky. South Carolina, Georgia..Not the most exciting states, but...
7:30pm: OHIO, West Virginia, North Carolina
Early exit polling says the key states are tilting toward kerry, but that may inspire more Bush voters to go out to the polls, so you never know.
The Hannity to my Colmes will be here at some point after 8. Definitely by 9, when we become official. STAY TUNED
ETA: BTW I am getting my projections from CNN

Re: Classless Election Coverage 7PM STATES ARE IN
I just voted here in MA (grew up on LI) and had the most bizarre experience. I was asked my street (told them) then the house number (told them) then I told them my name, I offered ID - they said 'no thanks' then I was handed a piece of paper.I said 'what's this?' their reply 'your ballot' She pointed to these OPEN wooden booths to fill out the ballot. Then I had to walk across the room where I was asked my street again and handed in my ballot. My questions are:
couldn't anyone pretend to be anyone and vote?
Do you think my vote 'counted'?
I just know I am going to catch heck for this . . But did anyone else have an experience like this or is MA behind the times????

I used to live in Rhode Island and the voting was the same way - on paper.

Re: Classless Election Coverage 7PM STATES ARE IN
I have a feeling that there won't be a winner tonight. I mean, obviously someone will win tonight but I don't think we'll know. There are huge problems in PA, as someone above me pointed out.Soxfan- IMO MA is behind the times. Though NY still has those old booths with the lever. I remember being a little kid and going with my mom to vote in the 70s! So much for technology!

Re: Classless Election Coverage 7PM STATES ARE IN
wow - i was watching the news before and i saw that most of the polling places use such antiquated ways of voting that i don't know how it has lasted as long as it has. i mean in the age of technology, how do we have write in ballots? i hoped you at least voted for yourself...

I just voted here in NY and saw those ballots and the wooden boxes, but I believe those were for provisionary voters here. I have no idea what that means in MA. If you are really curious call the hotline.

there was a dotted line arrow by each candidate and I was asked to darken in the line ( reminiscent of the SAT's LOL) and then I STUFFED the ballot box.

So you're saying I could go up there, give any address in the district and vote with no ID checking or precautions against multiple votes?

You could do the same thing in NY. DH voted this morning by paper ballot b/c the board of elections in Nassau County did not process his paperwork. After he voted, I'm sure he could have gone to his old district in Suffolk and voted.

Re: Classless Election Coverage 7PM STATES ARE IN
It's different in all areas. I'm in Queens, and I had that little booth with the machine where you have to move the lever to the right, choose who you want, then move it to the left.I'm so nervous. I really will cry. I want someone who will worry about the working class as a President, not about giving tax cuts to the wealthy.
