I have a platinum and diamond e-ring. my jeweler told me to take a piece of copper wire and loop the ring over the wire and dip the ring in boiling water for 10 minutes. I couldnt beleive that he told me to boil my ring. he told me that it is the best way and it is comperable to getting it steam cleaned. It works better than any soap, jewlery cleane, or ammonia!

OMG!!!! I would NEVER do that!!!!!!
You have got to get what I bought (I have the same ring as yours). It's from QVC and it's called 'Caribbean Gem' jewelry clearner. IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! my ring is full of sparkle and looks brand new after I clean it with that!
Also, it has NO chemicals! So you can even use it to clean pearls and costume jewelry. I highly recommend this stuff!!

I got 'Touch of Purple' from a home show... I had cleaned my ring that morning and he cleaned it while I was there and the difference was incredible!!

I also have a plat. E-ring. I bought a jewelry cleaner from BB&B, I believe its called connoisseurs (SP?). its a small red jar, you dip it in it for like 15 seconds, brush it w/ a soft brush and then rinse under warm water. wow does it sparkle!! The one thing I heard not to clean it w/ was windex, the jeweler said after a while it will begin to get a tint to the diamond I think ammonia is the next best thing though!

Re: cleaning e-ring
i know it sounds dangerous, but the jeweler told me that boiling is very safe, b/c platinum is very strong and so are diamonds. the steam they use at the jewlers to clean the ring is as hot or hotter than boiling water!
