Ringing a bell

I read a story in Chicken Soup for the Bride's Soul about this. The couple also didn't like the idea, I can't completely remember what they did instead. I think they had someone get up and say something nice about them or make jokes about the couple. Either way tho, I'd recommend picking up the book. There's some really nice stories in there worth reading and they have good ideas for different things too.

I like this idea...
We were going to make cards with this poem for the tables, but ran out of time.

If you*d like to see us kiss,
We are happy to abide;
But a love song you must sing,
To both the groom and bride.
As a table, please stand up,
Whether far or near;
and sing with loud voices,
So everyone can hear.
You can chime 'More than Words,'
Or Etta James' 'At Last;'
It doesn't matter to us,
Just avoid the clinking glass.
So come on and join in,
in our happily wedded bliss;
And indeed you*ll be rewarded,
By seeing the newlyweds kiss!

its cute, but its also fun for guests to do the bells or glasses. I think a lot of people would feel funny standing up singing

that is a very cute idea. I'll keep it in mind.

I'll keep the ideas so far in mind. with the bells and i'll look into that book.

FI's cousin did this at her wedding, and most of the tables got up to sing. There were no clinking glasses. It was cute.

I'd rather have the glasses than people singing..LOL

My cousin had little bells. It was cute. Also the bells can be used as placecard holders...so that's an idea. What my couisn did was just 2 or 3 little tiny bells per table..you can also put one big silver bell on each table and it can be an extra favor for someone

i think thats kind of the point... people are less likely to stand up and sing to get your to kiss, so there will be less interuptions to the bride and grooms dinner i like this idea
cause i can't stand the whole clinking glasses thing constantly... and FIs family is a BIG FAN... GRRR!!!!! LOL

We bought little bells with cards instead of the clinking glasses....

Re: Clinking glasses to kiss

I think the bells are the msot practical idea.

I fidn that the people who want to sing are usually the people who can't..and when i'm paying good money for a band or a dj I don't want my guests to have to hear drunk uncle marvin wailing away.

I really just wanted to add that there's no way to avoid the clinking glass thing. it's so embedded that epople will do it anyway!

I've seen the bells. very cute. Actually, I was at Cedarhurst Paper today (in Oceanside) and they sell them there by the box. Very inexpensive. They probably have them at Michael's or something also.

I don't really like either (glasses or bells).

I think even if you put something else on the table, people would still clink that glasses, its a tradition. I think its cute, and fun for the guests.

I like the bells and that is what we are going to do but I'm sure people will still clink the glasses because I think that is what most people are most familiar with.
