I have been sick since last week..feeling a horrible cold coming on along w sore throat..so I have been taking over the counter meds which help for a little...but now my left ear is completely clogged and hurts :( I can't get a doctors appointment and am so frustrated.
Anyone know anything that can help?? I would think I'd be started on antibiotics but not sure... I may go to the urgent care center near me..but i know the wait will be 3-4 hours.
Does anyone know any home remedies that can help a clogged ear? I've tried pinching my nose and exhaling but it only temporarily pops then seems to make it worse.
TIA!!

Please don't do that!!! You could rupture your ear drum. I've done it, it's not fun and can result in permanent hearing loss.
Other than taking decongestants, I do not know of any home remedies. I do suggest that you go to a doctor or clinic soon. Odds are you have an ear infection that will require antibiotics.
Feel better.

I didn't know that!! My FH kept telling me it was the best way to alleviate the pressure...but before i tried it and it made me so dizzy and hurt :( I'm really nervous now..my ear is pounding and I can barely hear out of it. I'm going to the urgent care center to be safe..thank you :)

Try a heating pad to relieve the pain.

Re: Clogged ear?
I always blow my ears out when clogged. It's clearing the eustachian tubes (sp?) Anyway, go to the doc, get some meds...it's going on too long and you're not getting better. Do you have a temp?

Re: Clogged ear?
You can go to the Emergency Room and i would do that if need be. Thye have something called Fast Track at a lot of them and will see someone like you pretty quickly. Especially if your doctor is away. An Ear Infection can become a serious infection if not treated and can result in permant hearing loss. Please see someone ASAP!

I guess you can always go to the clinic you mention if you can't get an appointment with your doctor. I hope you feel better soon!!

Re: Clogged ear?
This happened once to me in College during Spring Break when I stayed on campus. No way home, no doctors to see. It hurt too!!! I called a nurse hotline and got some advice.
Her suggestion REALLY worked like a charm so here it is.
Warm moisture by your ear and lay on it for awhile. For me it was a corner of a towel dipped in water and microwaved (did I mention I was on campus and not in my own dorm?). NOT HOT just warm. Then I laid on it and after awhile, it got better.
She suggested it could be the same as a crap or soreness of my ear canal. I already have a pronounced narrow ear canal from a hereditary trait so I’m prone to ear infections and sore ears. They swell up and cramp inside and it’s painful. The warm compress relaxed the tiny muscles and the moisture allows a vapor like action to warm the inside of my ear harmlessly.
Good Luck on whatever you do.
