For those who nbought a home over 400k..what were your avg closing costs?

My brothers estimated closing cost on a $340,000 mortgage are 12,500. Not sure if that is high or low.... You never hear of closing costs under 10k.

My DH just got quoted (literally) about $8000 from Teachers Credit Union. We're putting just over 20% down.

Ours were 13,000 and that is exactly what they estimated.

we bought new construction in brooklyn and our closing costs were in the mid-20s - staggering, i know

Mine have been quoted under $10,000, but we are in New Jersey so not sure if that makes the difference...

New York has a mortgage tax, it could make sense that in New Jersey you are not paying that..

Our house was over 400,00 and the closing costs were approx. 12,000.

Everyone's numbers will vary so much because it's entirely dependent on the amount of your loan, any discount and/or origination points you are paying, whether or not you are pre-paying certain bills, the cost of your property tax, insurance, etc.
The best thing you can do to get an idea is to get some good faith estimates for your particular loan requirements.
