Is it normal to have 3-5% closing fee for a mortgage - that's about $20,000 for us - seems a bit much but is it average?

Sounds like a rip-off to me. Show this to your attorney and have him/her look at it and advise you.

What is this fee called? Was it on your good faith estimate?
