Clueless!

I've been to only one wedding in my whole life, and was wondering if there is any kind of guidebooks on Etiquette/Planning? My local BN didn't have much practical info type of books, but I really need a very basic walk through guide for a Jewish wedding. Also, being on the budget, does anyone how much of the whole wedding gift giving is a must vs. choice? For example, at the one wedding I went to there were no favors for the guests. BTW, I want to thank everyone on the site for responding to my previous queries, you guys have all been really really helpful, just too bad I am not getting married in LI. (Too far for all the close relatives). Thankx
Alina

Re: Clueless!

My BIBLE when I was planning my wedding was :

The New Jewish Wedding, by Anita Diamont. If you are looking to have traditional Jewish wedding, it gives lots of ideas about how to make the ceremony 'your own' by including lots of traditions with a modern twist. My husband and I used it to write our own ceremony and it was truly special.

good luck!

Re: Clueless!

I am not Jewish, but I remember reading somewhere that there is a jewish wedding website...I think it was www.myjewishwedding.com. Hope that helps!

Yet again, I'm clueless with initials -- what's a BN?

Re: Clueless!

Barnes & Noble = BN

You do not have to spend a fortune to give a nice favor at your wedding. You can do hersey kisses wrapped in tulle with a tag 'Kisses from the bride and groom' That is very inexpensive. I think you should do something as a favor. Also consider making choclate covered oreas (super simple) wrapped in tulle. Again inexpensive, yet nice.

Re: Clueless!

You don't have to give favors. I have been to many weddings that didn't have them. I am going to give favors, but only because my mom is making me. Yup, I am 27 and my mom is MAKING me do something. She is paying for them, though. A search on this site will give you so many nice, relatively inexpensive ideas. As far as the Jewish wedding, I am way to Catholic to help you there.

Bearsbabe, I think she meant Barnes and Noble, but I would love to hear what you thought it was, because your DH post had me on the floor

Becky

I wish I had a good one for you, but I can tell you that Barnes and Noble was definitely NOT the answer!!!

Re: Clueless!

My understanding is that it is not part of jewish tradition to give a wedding favor. I mean I haven't gotten that far in my planning but when my cousin got married we got in a discussion with my aunt and she said it wasn't right to give them out at a jewish wedding. I just guess it depends on how religious you are.

Re: Clueless!

Thank you all very much!!! I looked on the jewish wedding site, and it seemed way too religious, so I'll check out the recommended book and perhaps try a few other Barnes and Nobles...
