I am sorry that this post may be long, but I cant take it anymore! This girl who is going to start with me at my job is DUMB AS HE-LL, and it is starting to scare me. We are currently in class, and some of the comments she makes and questions she asks makes me think, how did this girl get thru school? For example, we were told last week that we are being tested this coming monday on EKG's. SHe says 'Cant we take it in 2 days so its fresh in our heads?' I almost fell out of my chair! The teacher was like 'well you need to KNOW this stuff, we are not looking for short term retention here' She also is always asking the teacher what happens if you get written up, go on probatiion, ect. We were discussing meds in class yesterday and was asking over and over for an explanation on something that does not even exist and I started to shake my head, the teacher looked right at me and the look on her face was like 'is she kidding'? Yesterday we were talking about our clinical portion of orientation, and someone asked how long we are with a preceptor. The teacher said 6 weeks, and this girl says 'You mean after 6 weeks we are on our own?' I was like 'yeah!, they are not going to hold your hand forever!'. The teacher looked like she couldnt even believe what she heard. I know this is terrible, and maybe this is evil, but I hope seh doesnt pass her boards. I do not want this girl working, I dont think she is safe. I could be wrong, and I said something to her today that she should be careful about what she says to the teachers, because the teachers talk and they will get rid of you if they think you cant handle it. I have not seen her practice yet so I cant say for a fact that she is unsafe (otherwise I would report her right away), but I hope they catch onto her before she is on her own. Sorry so long, but I just cant take it anymore! Thanks for listening if you have read this far.

I know! And I cant say anything to anyone in authority because we have not practiced yet, (therefore I cant tell them sooner than they will find out on thier own) but I really hope that her preceptor sees through her and gets rid of her before she is on her own.

It would be very scary if she is in charge of watching over patients. If she's that dopey,I would imagine that she won't pass her classes.

Re: Co-Worker LONG(VENT)
Sadly, I think she has somewhat of a chance to pass her classes. She might have enough memorized to pass a test, but the test is the least of it. Even IF she passes the boards, that only 'shows' that you possess minimum competency, to protect the public. I feel sort of bad I probably hurt her by saying something to her, but I am going to be watching her like a hawk, and if she is messing up, I am going right to the manager. I am NOT the type to go behind peoples backs, but this is not the type of job that you 'figure out' as you go along, and I already told her to be careful. I am glad that out of the new group of 40 new graduate nurses, she is the only one that scares me. Everyone else is knowledgeable, and I believe that they will all be good nurses. One bad one in the bunch, and shes gotta work with me!

Its very scary that people will be dependant on her taking care of them.

Re: Co-Worker LONG(VENT)
In the beginning she we be paired with an experienced nurse, so she will be confined then. As soon as she starts to do things on her own, i will be watching, and i can report her anonymously if i have to! I worked as an LPN for 2 years before this, and I NEVER had to report anyone (or even had to think about it!), or ever had a problem with anyone i worked with before this, so i know i am not one of those people who is watching others in order to get them in trouble. I dont want to scare anyone from letting a new nurse care for them, I promise you, I have yet to see one like this girl ever before. The rest of us are very careful, we have good base knowledge, and are aware of our limits. I am sure she wont make it out of training, I am just impatient that they dont see what I see now! We start on the floor monday, so they will begin to see I hope. Thank you for responding and listening!
