Co-workers and Christenings...

Co-workers and Christenings...

DH and I are invited to a Christening of a colleague’s child. We are not friends with this person but DH feels obligated to go .

Question - what is an appropriate monetary gift?

I'd give a gift. You could probably find something cheaper than the amount of money you'd have to put to be reasonable.
(Meaning: you can probably find a beautiful frame or something keepsakey for under $20 bucks, but you probably can't put $20 bucks in the envelope.)

Usually for Christenings (and most assorted baby parties) I give bonds. So you can go and spend $25, and that buys a $50 bond-I think that's a nice gift....maybe that along with bringing some cookies or something to the party would be good.

another good idea! i think the party is catered so i think bringing something would be awkward, i think the whole thing is strange but need to go with the flow...

I went to a Christening for a friend's co-worker, so that was even weirder! I didnt'think peopel brought dates to these things, but he didn't want to go alone.
I'm not sure what he did for a gift, but I like the frame or keepsake idea.
