The time has come for FH and I to make our wedding list. When it comes to work, we are having some what of a dilemma. I work in a dept. that consists of about 15 people. Out of the 15 people, I am only close with about 5 or 6.
I am thinking to only invite those that I interact with on a daily basis... which are those 5 or 6 people. For instance, I will be inviting a nurse who I am very close with.. she works in my dept. However, there are two other nurses that work in my dept as well. I am not close with them. I don't want to invite people that I am not close with nor should I feel like I 'have' to anyone out of pity. Right or wrong? We don't want a huge wedding. Does this sound mean? What are you guys doing?
Also, those who will be invited to my wedding, should they also be invited to my bridal shower?
Thanks guys- I really appreciate your responses!!

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I just quit my job so I am not inviting anyone from my job. My FH is still trying to decide who he is going to invite. He has a group of people that he works with and sees socially occasionally that we will probably invite, but the rest are out.

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I work in a small agency with 9 employees and we're all pretty close so we're inviting everyone.

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I work in a company with about 50 people and there are also about 15 people in my dept alone.
I invited my boss, 5 or 6 others that I interact on a daily basis and consider friends.
I don't think you need to feel guilty for not inviting the other people. If you wind up inviting everyone plus guests, you wind up having an additional 20-30 people... i don't think it's worth it personally.

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
You're 100% correct, you can/should invite whoever you want. FH and I decided not to invite anyone from our jobs. It's just made it easier not to have to pick and choose, not to mention, our guest list was already big enough!

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
Unfortunately, FH and I work in the same company and have for 6 years, so we have 22 people invited from work.
22!!!
We really narrowed that down to people who have supported us and help us and people whose company we enjoy outside of the office. Some people are starting to grumble that they aren't invited (an indication that my shower must be soon since we haven't sent out invites yet).
Can't please everyone!!

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I think it is the right thing to do depending on how long you've known them. I work with about 15 people also and am inviting most of them. I've been here for almost 4 years. I am going to invite most of them (the full-time employees). I am getting married on a Friday, so I'm guessing most of them won't come, leaving me with the ones I actually am close with and really want there. That is the plan...

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I'm only inviting 4 people (who I am close with) out of about 20 I work with. If people don't understand I could care less--you can't invite the whole world. As far as the shower--I didn't have them on the list because usually people from work will throw their own mini-shower and I don't want them to feel obligated to go to two showers.

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
At my job there are only about 20 employees. It is like a little family, but I am not close to everyone. We decided to keep the list to only those people that we had a relationship with outside of work. It was difficult and a few people were upset, but we had to draw a line somewhere.

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
Are you obligated to invite your boss if you are inviting 3 ppl from work? (I work in a school)... so whould I have to invite my Asst. Principal- who is my direct boss? (i do not get along with her... but I heard if you invite anyone from work, then you HAVE to invite your boss?!?!?!)

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I work in an office of over 80 people. I am inviting a close group of friends (6 or so) and my team members (3) and my boss. So with guests about 20 people.

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I'm running into a similar work problem. I work in a very small office. There is my boss (2), and three other people I work with (6 with guests). But then there are two consultants (4 with guests) that I should invite -- one gave us a very generous engagement gift. So right there, I have a full table of 12. Fine.
The issue is, there are 2 other old employees that I think I need to invite. I was invited to one of their weddings years ago who's mother still works in the office and IS invited. The other one gave me a engagement gift (small, but nonetheless a gift). PLUS, my boss always invites them to social functions -- holiday luncheon, annual BBQ, etc. So I see them several times a year.
I'm not a fan of these people, and inviting them then pushes my work table from a comfortable 12 to a too crowded 16 if they all come.
But is it worth them knowing they were NOT invited when I see them at the holiday luncheon 1 month after my wedding?

Re: Co-workers: Who gets invited?
I'm inviting the 6-7 people that I eat, shop, socialize with and then my immediate boss and the other 2 people from my dept. FH on the other hand works with 23 people and it's been made known that you invite all or no one!!! He's close with about 4, so it means 46 people!!!

I only invited co-workers that I associate with outside of work.

I think the general rule is if you wouldn't have dinner with them at your house then don't invite them to your wedding.
That is a great rule ! i'm going to use that !! I have a HUGE department, and I work w/ many many people every single day. - I am inviting those people I have lunch w/ regularly or speak to about things other than 'work' - you know, pepole you'd call friends !!
