I haven't booked my hall yet but I do have a question. Do you think it's possible not to have a cocktail hour instead put the hour towards the actual party? Do you think this will save me $$ as well?

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
I don't know if it would be... why would you want to skip your cocktail hour, though? A lot of guests really look forward to it, the food tends to be very elaborate and unique. There's always so much food at the cocktail hour and I think the guests might miss it if it were gone. Not sure how your hall would work that out, since a lot of the cost per person comes from the cocktail hour as well. Unless you plan another course or two for the dinner reception, I don't think you should skip it... just my opinion!!

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
I think it would only save money if you didn't add the extra hour on to the reception. They will probably say that they will still need staff, liquor, etc for that hour.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
When I was planning my wedding I found a lot of 'Halls' wouldn't do this. Although Meadow Club has a special 4 hour pkg. which I did not like. I did find that some restaurants that cater, i.e. Danfords, Irish Coffee Pub, and Chateu le Mer would do a luncheon or brunch with no cocktail hour. I can tell you that I am having 12:30-1:00 ceremony, 1-5 reception thats a luncheon with a DJ. I have the upstairs room and am very happy with it. By doing it this way I saved about 20.00pp.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
I think that cocktail hour is the best part1 The food is awesome and it serves as an opportunity for people to 'warm up' to each other before the actual wedding reception. Sometimes, I have a better time (at least eating wise) at the cocktail hour. JMO

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
I have to agree, the CH is usually the best part (food wise). Instead, maybe you could express this concern with your hall and see if they can work within your budget - without eliminating the CH.

Re: Cocktail Hour Question
Keep asking around, but I do not think that not having a cocktail hour is going to save you any money. If you're still going to have that hour and add it to your reception, like someone said, they're still going to need staff, food, drinks, etc...
There are lots of other ways to cut costs and save money.
