Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

Is everyone decorating their cocktail hour room? I'm asking b/c my wedding is in 3 weeks and I just realized that I didn't really get any flowers for that room. Are votive candles enough? Or do I need arrangements? or what..

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

I am thinking about doing a floating candle centerpeice for that room. You don't really have to though.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

I think votives are fine. The tables are usually too small for much more then that.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

You don't necessarily need it. Cocktail hour rooms are usually decorated already, because the food displays serve as plenty of eye candy.

Does your hall include votives on the tables?

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

I don't think you have to...I've seen people decorate and I've seen people not decorate the cocktail room at all but I bought a bunch of votive holders from IKEA at 50 cents each...I'll put on eon each table, nothing big.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

My hall doesn't really provide them- I'll go to Ikea- thanks...
the room has a fireplace- do you think I should do a mantle decoration? or i was thinking of getting white pillar candles for the top of it....
and there is also a big bar in that room... AHH
You know, every time I think i'm done, a gazillion more things come up.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

My place has a fireplace and I am thinking of filling the mantle with framed pics of family and friend (like my parents wedding photo), votives, and rose petals, or just some loose flowers...you could do somehing like that...just an idea.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

Totally depends on teh room. Ive seen cocktail hour rooms that had little decoration and I think it didnt make for a very good impression but Ive been to other places that had tons of decorations that were clearly unecessary since the room was so beautiful/full already.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

I've got multiple rooms to decorate. I don't have to, but opting to do so. I'm not going crazy with decorations though.

I'm bringing 2 of my large hydrangea urns from the ceremony to the reception (one on the piano in the sitting room and one for the foyer). And I'm decorating 3 fireplace mantles with clusters of roses & hydrangeas, greenery & pillar candles as well as 'ornate' frames with photos of family & friends (mostly B&W photos). The cocktail tables will have round glass bowls filled with hydrangeas and votives.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

We put out small potted plants on our cocktail room tables at the Carlyle. The florist provided them for us, and they got taken home afterwards.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

Cippyloo- I'm doing the pictures too, i was going to suggest that!
we are going to put old pictures (grandparents, parents wedding, older relatives who have passed on) all over the cocktail hour room. we have pictures in various sizes. we are scanning them in and then printing them out on nice photo paper (so that we are not using originals, just in case). Kohls has cheap frames (and i think they are having a 50% off sale on frames right now) and sometimes you can find good ones at CVS (or genovese up there). Good LUck!

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

I'm doing like JoRo...scanning the originals and printing them out.

I've been accumulating frames from: Off 5th, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Century 21, and Homegoods.

Re: Cocktail Hour Room Decorations

We're floating gardenias and using gardenias and candles on the mantles. Also taking our ceremony urn arrangements to decorate.
