I've never heard of it. We are having a hospitality half hour before the ceremony, but it will only be light food and drinks. I agree, the CH kinda gets the party rolling. Stopping to do the ceremony may kill the momentum. It's an interesting idea though. Have you ever been to a wedding where this was done?

IMO, I wouldn't do that. I agree that it's supposed to get things going and to stop between for the ceremony might kill the momentum, as Wendypoo put it. Again, this is JMO!

I've been to a wedding that way and its not bad. You don't have to worry about people being late, and as a guest it was fine. I'm not doing it cause, I don't want to miss my CH. With all this planning I'm not missing an hour on purpose!!!

It is a very common thing to do at Jewish weddings, although I am not.

It's true, it's very common at jewish weddings... I've been to a few where the cocktail hour was before the wedding, and it worked very nicely... no momentum was lost... right after the ceremony everyone piled into the reception hall and partied their butts off... we're doing that because we're having the ceremony and reception at the same place, and because we have a lot of OOT guests, so we want to leave enough time for people to make it to the ceremony

I haven't heard of that before, but...
my hall is setting up continental breakfast for early arrivals to my ceremony. It may be alot since the CH is right after the ceremony, but if someone gets there 1/2 hour early, coffe or tea might be nice.
They threw it in, so why not.

Until around 6-7 years ago any Jewish wedding I had been to had cocktail first.
However, I am doing ceremeony first BUT my caterer gave em the option the other day.

Some of my guests would be wasted if I did it before.
