The Thatched Cottage does a cocktail wedding. I didn't think it was enough of a savings to do it, and it was only 3hrs and in their smaller room. But it would work well if you have a smaller more mellow crowd. CH food is by far THEEEE best part of a wedding and The Thatched cottage is absolutely beautiful.

I have been toying with this idea as well. I am having an issue with thinking about how long it takes to get the party started at the wedding. When you have a traditional sit down dinner people have to sit and get their order taken and then you have to wait for the bride and the groom to be introduced and it is just a lot of waiting and its very formal. I don't know what I am going to do yet but I am def thinking about changing my menu to a custom crafted cocktail reception. It's a wonderful idea and it is a very very chic and modern idea!
This is exactly what I´ve been thinking about lately!
yea it sounds like a really nice idea and my RH has a menu for a cocktail reception wedding so i just might seriously look into it.
What Hall are you booked at?

Re: Cocktail reception
My mom and FH would have looooved a full cocktail hour reception.
I personally only see a few prob that may arrise. It MIGHT be harder for people to sit for the formal events if there is no set food in front of them. Also, unless you are having like 20 different items going around it might get monotonous (sp?) after awhile. If your able to have a lot of different options of cocktail food and a really good MC then i'd say go for it.

I don't think you'll be saving much money. Also, on the invite you would have to say 'cocktail reception.' I think it is a different type of wedding and wouldn't mind going to one, but I think it would better suit you to maybe look at restaurants and lounges rather than RHs, since that would probably save you $$.

Re: Cocktail reception
I'm having a cocktail reception and I think it's great. Im having 180+ and didn't want to waste time on ordering food. It was alot cheaper and my RH is letting me cusomized my menu, being that me and FH are very picky eaters. I think its a great idea!
