So my FH and I just received an invite for an old friends wedding and on the invitation it says 'Cocktail reception to follow.' Has anyone ever been to one and how much did you give as a gift?? Do you give the same amount that you would for a traditional wedding or is it different? TIA

We just went to one...we gave a little less than we normally would...there was only passed apps and cocktails...however, i did know that b/c of the location, they were paying a lot per plate...like a traditional wedding, so I didn't go as low as some friends did...i guess anything you ever give at a wedding is generous! hth

I am getting married at a place that offers a cocktail reception- and believe it or not... its the same price as a sit down!

I just didn't know if there was a protocal for it. I figured we would give what we normally do but I just wanted to make sure.
I also normally base our gift on where the wedding is, but with this I had no idea. They rented some room in a downtown Brooklyn. I'm stumped.
I was thinking 250-300 should cover us. What do you think?

i'd go with $250
ETA: that's what FH and I gave our friends when we went to their cocktail reception ... but if you're close with these people, i'd go with $300.
