Help! I m newly engaged and looking to have a casual cocktail style reception. I m on a tight budget for the NY area, I really dont want to spend more than 12,000 - and we are expecting approx 125 people. I ve looked into a bunch of lofts, but site fees alone where over $5,000. I have also looked into some venues that have All inclusive deals, and they were nice for a sit down dinner but I don t think their cocktail/buffet options are that great. Does anyone have any suggestions for anywhere in long island, brooklyn or queens? I ve seen some cheaper option out in suffolk county but I m really looking for nassau county closer to the city. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Congratulations and welcome! Try Studio Square Loft. They do cocktail parties. I had looked into it for an engagement party. At the time is wasn't feasible for us to do an engagement party and full wedding. The quote was $90/pp (in 2013) so I'm not sure if it has changed but it was for full butler service and open bar. It's in Long Island City (Queens) and its very modern and nice. As for Nassau county have you tried any VFW's? Hope that helps. Happy planning.

why dont you look into the all inclusive weddings? the sterling and ariana waterfalls has them you could get everything for about 12k

I will have to check those out. I did look at Mediterranean manor and Marconi Manor and they did all inclusive. They were just a little far out on the island, most of the guests are coming from the city - and I was planning on a friday night. I thought it might be a little hard with traffic to get all the way out on the island.

I would say go to east wind, they have a package at the cottage for 10,000 and its amazing! we got married there in 2014! call over there and their cocktail is great!!

I was actually looking to do something similar. A caterer I spike to actually said it's more expensive to do a cocktail dinner because they have to hire more staff to work stations and walk around with food. Just something to keep in mind!

Thanks for all the feedback! We actually opted for a sit down reception at Verdi's in Westbury. The venue is gorgeous and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful! Plus the location was perfect for my guests.
