Coconut Custard Pie

I made my coconut custard pies for thanksgiving (to freeze) and I never made the coconut custard pie before, I folowed ALL the directions to a T and it didnt come out like coconut custard pie, it came out like pecan pie but with coconut flakes instead of pecans. Does anyone know why this happened? It came out like the bottom layer of pecan pie instead of creamy like coconut custard, I want to try & remake it before thanksgiving but I dont know what I did wrong? Has anyone ever made it before? if so can I have your recipe???

I made it last year from scratch and it just wasn't like Mrs. Smith, so this year that's what I bought... I couldn't figure what I did wrong either.. oh well.. good luck!
