Re: Cold Sore!
Pick up some lysine pills. You can find them at health food/vitamin stores. I've found it works just as well as valtrex does. Also apply abreva periodically throughout the day. I carry a small ziplock baggie in my purse with all my cold sore stuff. Just in case- At the first 'tingle' I start popping lysine pills and applying Abreva. I've found that early treatment is the most crucial.
to everyone because this virus ***** and we're stuck with it forever..................

Don't pick at it. If you can't get abreva put toothpaste on it before you go to bed at night. It will dry it up. It works for pimples too.

Yeah its so unfortunate that there's no real cure for them. Well someone at my job said that you dont get it as much when you hit your 30s...so they say, who knows?

Not true. A cold sore is essentially a virus. Once it's in your body, it's there for life. It's just whether your body can fight it or not. This is why people tend to get them after having a cold - b/c your immune system is weakened and can't fight the cold sore.

Re: Cold Sore!
Ugh, I get them and they're terrible! They're like little face terrorists! I never want to leave the house when I have one. Anyway, I've always used Abreva and I have never been too pleased. It does cut down the healing time, I guess, compared to what it would be without using it. I got one two and a half weeks before my wedding so I ran to my doctor in tears. He prescribed Denavir, which SIGNIFICANTLY reduced healing time. I had never used it before and it was incredible! He also gave me the option of 'blasting it' with Valtrex, but I chose the denavir.
Also, I ice it 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off a few times a day. Helps numb the area and soothe the pain.
Good luck!
ETA: some people have told me to take the vitamin lysine. Not sure how much that does to prevent or help heal them, but I guess it's worth a shot if you get them a lot. I also wear lip balm with spf.

I just read an article that people who take B12 daily reduce the amount of cold sores they get by 74%.

Re: Cold Sore!
Valtrex will dry them out in a day or 2. Zovirax is an amazing Rx cream. Go see your Dr asap.
