Re: Colonics
I am into getting this done - have not done it, but know a few people who swear by it's healing benefits, especially if you are an IBS type.

Re: Colonics
If you're looking for a place in the city, I recommend the person I go to - Elena at Natural Vitality - upper east side, across from Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. I go twice a year.
Does anyone know where the one is in Hicksville? I am having trouble finding it? Also, does insurance cover this?

Some insurances will cover it, but most do not unless it is a prescribed treatment for IBS or other medically diagnosed issues. Best thing to do it speak with your ins co.

Re: Colonics
Alright guys, I'm going to go totally TMI here, but how does it work?? I mean, I've seen it shown on VH1 (the tube with the doody water in it coming OUT) but where does it go IN?? Isn't like a super-sized enema or something??? Something about a garden hose full of water going up town doesn't seem appealing to me Although I'm sure I'd feel fresher than a summer's eve commercial

Re: Colonics
After extensive research I found a place in Lindenhurst that does this. It's called The ABC Wellness Center if anyone is interested. I am going in Sept.

ok, well, I'm not going to lie and say that it's a totally relaxing experience - but this is how it is: (TMI alert!)
you will have a small tube inserted - and then you are instructed to lie on your back. The hydrotherapist turns the water on and in the beginning a small, fairly slow moving amount of water moves along the tube and 'into you.' the therapist controls the force, temperature and amount of water - hitting the release valve when you feel that there is too much water in your body - the force of the water leaving your body will take with it any impacted waste materials and will 'encourage' (for lack of a better word) other waste that needs to make its way out of your large intestine. Over the course of a 45 minute treatment (they generally range from 45 min to an hour) the amount of water will vary, as will the temp of the water. Depending on how well your colon is functioning, you can feel the water in your body.
There are parts where the procedure HURTS - make no mistake - and depending on where you go - you can observe exactly what is leaving your body - in some facilities you cannot.
Why have it done? This procedure is not endorsed by everyone. The idea behind it is that a great number of diseases emanate from the colon - makes sense, given the amount of toxicity and waste that's sitting there. I have it done twice a year to literally aid in cleaning out my system and to jump start a healthier diet. Some people do it as a diet aid - which is dangerous. You will lose anywhere from 3-5 pounds from a single treatment, including necessary nutrients. Despite the trend in Hollywood to have a colonic to lose weight, this is not a diet aid and you will quickly gain the weight back. . . unless you make certain changes in diet and exercise.
I'm not a health professional and not everyone endorses this procedure. I happen to think that colonics have helped with my general health and well-being, but everyone is different and if you are thinking of having the procedure done, I'd speak to a health professional and research it a bit.
