Re: colonoscopy
I had 7 of them. They are not bad themselves. They give you something so you are drowsy and out of it. The bad part is the stuff you have to drink beforehand. Man, it is disgusting and be prepared to live in the bathroom. When I went for the first few I had to drink this gallon jug of stuff. I drank it with 7-up and it wasn't too bad. The next 5 times I had it I drank these two small bottles of something that did the same think. They were gross but it was much less to drink so it was a bit easier. Good Luck!! I just kept telling myself it will all be over in the morning!! FM me if you want to know anything else. I sorta became a pro at these!!

Re: colonoscopy
I've had 6. I had to drink horrible stuff too to make me 'go' in order to flush out my system. I didn't drink it with 7-up - I wish I had.
But yes you are sedated. And trust me you are awake sorta but you really don't care that you are having that procedure done you're so out of it. I sorta remember most of it, the sedative kinda makes you not remember the procedure. But I've had 3 with the same doctor and he's told me I sang during all of them (HOW EMBARASSING but he said he thinks it's cute). He also told me that you have no nerve endings in your colon so for the most part you don't feel it. I'll fm you too.
Good luck..it's not the worst procedure in the world, thankfully!

Re: colonoscopy
my mother in law just went through this .. the day before with the fluid stuff she just had gatorade all day .. BAD IDEA!! I REPEAT, BAD IDEA!! we had to take her to the emergency room because of a very low potassium level.

Re: colonoscopy
I've had 2 and I have to say that the worst part is drinking the stuff beforehand! The colonoscopy itself is no biggie. I was awake for the first, but groggy from demerol, the second time I was totally out because we found out from the first time that I'm allergic to demerol!!!
I have heard that they are coming out with something new where you don't have to drink the yucky stuff..I can't wait to try that for my next one!!
Good luck!!

Re: colonoscopy
I had one this past year --- The test itself was a breeze -- like everyone else said -- the prep before hand was not fun... Drinking that syuff was nasty ... but my advice is let it get as cold as possible -- makes it easier... The day of the test I was nervous -- but it was nothing! They put me to sleep -- I woke up -- not even knowing what happened ! Godd Luck !

Re: colonoscopy
they have it in the pill form now for those who can't handle drinking the yucky stuff.

Re: colonoscopy
I had one on our 2 year anniversary and I agree with what everyone else said the prep before hand was the WORST part--- The first part was fine but I almost got sick from the second part--- then the next day during the exam you are in twilight--I dont remember a thing -- -and I never felt groggy or anything-- we were able to go out that night and have a great time-- Good Luck

Re: colonoscopy
Yes 'twilight' -- I rememeber the doctor saying something about that. And I remember that becuase I said how I didn't remember most of the test (1/2 hour after it was over) to the dr. and he said something about twilight.
Peg, good luck. I'm sure you will do well. I hope the results will be good.
