Ok ladies, I'm having what may be my first real wedding 'meltdown'. I promised myself I wouldn't become 'that girl' BUT I am stressed out about this...here's the problem:
FH and I had navy and white as our colors. However, he hates how navy and black tux's look together...I'll give it to him- up until recently I completely thought they clashed. However, I only want the groomsmen in black. I really think my dress is too formal for anything else. (Pix are in my album) Aside from not seeing a single bridesmaid dress I like in ANY color, I've decided to keep an open mind although because is an evening wedding in March, I'd like to keep it in darker Jewel tones for sure. I've seen some nice dresses and even some fun ones in black. I did find a purple one I like.
What do you think? I keep going back and forth with this and I cannot make up my mind.
HELPPPPPPPPP.

Color Meltdown!
Personally if you are stuck on navy dresses I think you could do a dark/slate gray. I have to agree that I dont like the way navy & black look together either. In fact our guys are wearing navy suits with brown shoes because I hate navy & black together.
If you are willing to change your wedding colors then I think a purple would be beautiful.
You need to decide what is more important, the color of the tuxes or the color of the BM dresses. Then your decision will be easier

Google images of navy bridemaid dress with tuxes. They look really nice.
You need inspiration. You might regret changing your color.

I think if you select a navy that isn't TOO close to black, it can definitely work! Navy has a very large range. I personally wouldn't change your colors since you have been wanting this since the beginning but perhaps a shade lighter than traditional navy (almost black)?
One other option is to add a third color in. this way you can still incorporate navy but more as an accent. Peach looks wonderful with navy and white!
I agree that your dress is formal (and LOVELY) so you should stick with black tuxes.

I wanted navy originally but went for a lighter blue, almost royal, that may be an option and clash less with the black? Or I like luckyerialc's idea of using navy as accents, and a 3rd color for dresses. But hey at the end of the day, it's your wedding and you do what you want! lol

Crashing...I am doing navy bridesmaids dresses with silver shoes and having the groomsmen in black/silver...I think the tuxes will read more neutral with silver and make the navy 'pop' if you understand what I'm saying...I wouldn't want navy tuxes either because that is too informal looking for my taste

What about having the girls in gray dresses with navy and white flowers? That way, the black tuxes and the gray dresses mesh well, and you're still getting your navy and white in the flowers- You can incorporate alot of the navy in your wedding decorations

I agree with you that navy and black doesn't go well together. I think that a dark grey can still be very formal. What about putting the guys in a morning coat? That is a very formal look. Here is a picture but the grey is a little light.

I agree with this....I actually really like a 'milder' navy with black. Maybe you could incorporate a black sash or sparkly black brooch into the dresses to tie it all together? What color flowers are you planning on?

Thank you all! Such great suggestions! KandE, I like your idea of having the guys wear grey vests so the black reads neutral!
