Comment FMIL Made this weekend - opinions?

Hi Ladies,

This weekend, FMIL made a comment to me that I did not appreciate. She asked me if I was going to get a veil w/ a blusher. I said that I already got my veil when I ordered my dress because it was a perfect match for the detailing on my dress, and that yes it had a blusher. She asked if I intended on wearing the blusher over my face, because she is very old fashioned about that. Basically inferring that I shouldn't! (A little background on this to help you understand my situation- I have been with FH for 61/2 years. We've lived together for 5 of those years, and we have a 3 year old son.) I have never been married, not has he.

While I am far from a virgin (or virginal-he,he), I always dreamed about my dad lifting my veil on my wedding day. Now I don't know if I should. My Dad is a reverend, and will actually be the one officiating our ceremony. He has not asked the blusher question! Now I feel like she has rained on my parade, and I don't know if it's OK for me to wear the blusher.

What do you ladies think? What's the ettiquite on this?

i dunno anything about what the etiquette is on this, but i think that it's your day and you should do what makes you happy. if you've always dreamed of wearing a blusher, then do it!!!

maybe you can just mention to your dad how it works if he's gonna officiate and he would also be lifting your blusher. this way it will give him a heads up and you can tell from his response how it would be done and whether it's even an issue for him. i don't know your dad, but i can't imagine him even thinking to tell you not to have a blusher.

It's your day, if you want to wear a blusher you should. There is no reason why you shouldn't. I would wear it. Go for it and enjoy you big day.

it is your wedding, and you should do what you want to and not listen to anyone else, although it is often difficult to do that.

You said you always wanted to to have your dad lift your veil-you answered your own question. You should do what you want to do and ignore other's comments.

I agree--- and not for nothing, but if she's as old fashioned and what not as she sounds, why didnt her son 'do the right thing' and marry you before you had your son 'out of wedlock'?

You wear that blusher with pride!

I totally agree. You always dreamed of having a blusher and your daddy lifting it.... I say GO FOR IT. Its your day, and I think if you let others make you change your mind, you will eventually regret it.

Is there a polite way to tell her to 'sit on it'?

A few months back I posted about this and I did some research on the whole blusher thing. Reason being is that I wanted to wear one but always thought that was a symbol for purity (virginity) Well after I researched ,nothing about virginity was tied to what I read, this custom comes from trying to get demons away from the bride (silly right) so wear your blusher with pride sista!!! Don't let anyone rain on your parade!!!!
This is 2006 and if we were to all stick to 'traditions' 99% of us shouldn't be wearing white right??? lolol I'm wearing a blusher too and FH and I have been living together for 5 years also!!!!
XOXOXO

geez - brides can do whatever they want - wear white or a blusher or whatever - no one cares what they are supposed to signify!!
