Posted by FutureMrsH
Hey, did anyone know that not only was he our ally...but we trained him too! And, how did we know Hussain had WMD's...hmmm...uh, we GAVE them to him!
if such selfishness perpetuates, when people are down and out they will look around and see that they are surrounded by others who also just don't care...not a world i personally want to live in...
ETA: I give DJPill credit for saying what he feels. Sometimes you can't constantly worry about the world, you know...

Actually, while WMD may not have been found they did find heavy aresonals of weapons. Also there is now reason to believe that Russia was helping them remove the weapons before our arrival. Check out the military we pages they are very informative.

Ditto.
I don't need anyone to look out for me. DH and I are the ones in those 200K tax brackets but we think about what's best for the world overall and in our opinion it's not GW. No matter how many tax breaks 'the so called rich', which we are not, get they still tax the cr@p out of us so some change tossed our way isn't going to help everyone else who is struggling.

Re: Common Sense, People!!
As usual, I totally disagree with DJPill. I totally look out for toher people. I'm not in a high tax bracket at all, but I'd rather even pay more taxes (even though I'd ahve to struggle more0 if it meant giving better healthcare and education to all of those children who ARE left behind. hat's just the wya I am. I gave up hgh paying summer jobs in college to volunteer helping to close the achievement gap of poor and minority high school students trying to get into college. I just feel like no one's free while thers are oppressed. So if I were in the higher tax bracket, I'm sure I'd want them to keep the tax cuts and improve the schools. Even if you are compeltely selfish, keeping people on their feet and giving peopel good education and hea;thcare among other things benefits society as a whole.

I think that is very noble that you help out with humanitarian causes, and are willing to be taxed more so that other people can benefit from your labor. But, not everyone feels that way....
There are other ways to help the world other than being taxed more, like donating your time and energy to specific causes. I just dont like the idea of govt taking more of MY hard earned money and spending it on social causes the way THEY want to. I think I pay enough taxes as it is with property taxes, income taxes and sales taxes. IMO, there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough. I don't think that is selfish - but more survivalist and individually family oriented.

Verdila, I agree 100%...between all the taxes you mentioned I figure I pay about 45% of my hard earned income to taxes. I think that's more then enough...If the gov't cant get it right with almost half of my income, give me a shot with the balance I have left.

DJ PIll is the only one who is willing to say exactly how he feels, believe me I am all for helping others, I do Habitat for Humanity I send care packages to a number of men overseas not just my man, I did the walk for breast cancer, I care about people
but when it comes down to it, my family is all that REALLY matters, sorry if you find that cruel and unusual, I think most people feel this way but are too 'politically correct' to say it and god forbid have someone on a forum think they are mean.
Here-here!! At least DJ is being honest and says how he feels regardless of the popular opinion. I feel like he does - I give to all sorts of causes and volunteer like crazy on all sorts of noble and worthwhile causes, but I've also personally seen the other side of the coin. I've seen our tax money being abused by people milking the sytem who are just out for a free ride. And I'm not about to give up another one of my hard earned, working two jobs for the dollar so that another government program can be funded to aid these individuals. I'm not about to take money out of my own kid's mouth or from funding for her education. I do what I can but enough is enough...

I feel I help other people out enough. Its called paying Federal / State / and City taxes. Don't forget Medacaid. Don't forget Social Security (which is very likely i'll never see by the time I am 65).
I sometimes think the people that think I am selfish.. are the people that are just jealous that I got where I am at this point by doing it with good ole hard work and busting my a$$.

So you have to keep yourself poor to look out for other people? I give a tremendous amount (both time and money) to various organizations that I believe are worthy of my time and effort. I also pay about 45% of my salary into taxes. You may decide that's not enough for you in your life but that doesn't have to be the same way for everyone. I don't need Big Government telling me how my money should be spent. That's a socialist, not capitalist, economy. We don't live in a country that was founded on those principles.

What makes you think that giving the gov't more money will make things better for the programs you see fit? Wouldn't you rather have control over your own money and spend it according to your beliefs and passions?

Re: Common Sense, People!!
No, I don't think that's going to solve everything r that you do have to be poor. It's just that, we're all taking tax cuts and all of these programs and suffering as a result. it's not anyone's fault, no matter what tax bracket you're in. I just think it's complete mismanagement of funds and since we're in a war and there's a huge defecit, there shoudn't be all of these tax cuts. I was just saying it's selfish to say that since you're comfortable it doenst matter that schools and other programs are badly underfunded, but rich doens't mind me calling him selfihs

So then that shuld help us all understand why people vote the way they do.. One person can choose to beleive what they read while another person chooses not to..and make their decisions for themselves and only themselves not others.
