I went to my hall a few weekends ago to listen to a dj there. There was a wedding going on and we stood outside to listen. My only issue is that some of the staff had nose rings and eye brow rings. Also, the valet were like 16 year old kids that looked very unkept !! Is it reasonable to ask that the waitstaff remove any nose rings, eyebrow rings, etc and for the valets to be wearing decent tucked in attire? I just think that if you are paying $100++ a plate for a dinner, your waitress should not have an eyebrow ring and your valet should have his shirt tucked in. Am I being unreasonable????

Re: concern about waitstaff
I think that as far as attire goes you can def. have a talk with your event manager there. You should def. have well kempt staff for that price. We paid a bit over that and all of our staff were in tuxes or tux style suits (can't recall).
As far as nose rings/eye brow rings, they may not be able to help you with that. If it's not their policy in hiring (some places it is and if you agree to work there you agree not to have facial peircings), I don't think that they can now ask someone to remove those things (people who have just been pierced cannot remove them for a certain amount of time usually). Besides, if the person was hired with that they shouldn't be asked to change it now ...
But, you could still talk over your concerns with your event manager.

Re: concern about waitstaff
I wouldn't worry so much about how they looked but how they worked?
I work at a place that does lots of weddings and parties and the BEST server there is a young guy with a eyebrow ring. He is so awsome that he gets incrediable tips from people all the time. When we do a party everyone splits the tables. In other words if there is 20 tabels each server is responsible for about 5 tabels. I have seen this guy work these tables and the people love him to death.
The valets should be dressed appropriately. At my place if you are going to be seen by guests, you are required to wear a white collar shirt and a black tie.
I also use to work at a place that had a no piercing and no tattoo policy and they lost a lot of good people (including me ) because of that.
I think legally you can not ask someone to remove their body jewlery, even if it may offend you.

They should be dressed appropriately, however, piercings should not be asked to be reomoved...IMO. I don't have any (just my ears :) but I don't they that is appropriate to ask.

Re: concern about waitstaff
I think that insurance requires the valets to wear the bright colored jackets. If so, then there is no problem with the shirts (they should be tucked in anyway) Ask the BM if that policy is in place, if so, tell BM you would like it enforced. I am sure that given a choice, the valets would rather tuck in than wear a jacket. Especially if your wedding is in the summer months. As for peircings, you can explain that your family or guests or whatever are traditional and you would prefer peircings be left out wherevere possible and mention a tip will be forthcomming. It is definately not a law that you cant ask. In NYS you can even be fired (legally) for the peircings. Its a work at will state.

Re: concern about waitstaff
IMO, I would have a problem with this....and I have been in the industry... I managed a bar & tended bar. It comes off as unclean when you are serving food & have facial piercings... I used to have piercings in my face, but took them out when I began to work in more mainstream bars (I worked at a few goth & metal clubs)
Regardless of how much you pay, if this bothers you, then definately say something.
