I think you should do what you want. Even if the DJ says that it'll look bad, if you feel that up lighting will look good, then do it!!

I actually kind of agree with him! The walls are so dark it won't be a show stopper like in other halls! One of the reasons I decided against riviera. I'd save the money and do somethign else really cool!

I'm going back and forth about getting uplighting at the Riviera or not. I don't think it looks bad at all, I just think it might take something away from the natural feel of the place, which is why we booked there to begin with. I'm leaning towards just doing a TON of candles

i had up lighting there and i think it looked great! i only did it in the 2 corners of the room. you can see it in this picture. if you want info on my dj let me know! hes great to work with

Personally and only personally I think he is right ...the uplighting looks bad..BUT if you feel like you want it then go ahead and make your own decision. This is only my opinion

Ok so here is something to think about:
Did he say that the uplighting was possible? My Co-worker met with him last week and he said the SAME thing to her, but she isn't getting married at the same hall.
Maybe he just doesn't have the equipment to do it.
IDK, I just thought it was strange that he has told the same things to two brides.

i would ask the riviera ... my venue was upfront about uplighting. they told us how many lights if we were going to do it. i loved how upfront they were and the djs agreed.

my hall says uplighting looks great in the room!!! i have talked to several other DJS and all of them have said uplighting looks great in the main room, a few had said that it may be a waste against the walls with the windows.....the pics are from Then til Now...
Iam meeting with LI Sounds today and will see what they say.

I think it looks great in the pictures, especially that first one. It's kind of ridiculous and a waste of time for them to give their opinions.
