They showed me a book of a few painfully bland looking cakes that they offer...
Do you think they jazz them up on request? Would I have to get a florist to jazz them up?
I have no intentions of going to an outside baker to make a cake when the cake comes with the wedding...
But now that I've seen the cakes that are out there, I can't really stomach having such a plain one at my wedding. What to do....

Re: Confused about cake.
Hi Girl!
I was told that if bring a few pictures of cakes you like they will tell you whether or not they can be replicated. This is true for Chateau Briand so it must be the same for other Scotto places so just ask next time you go over there!

Re: Confused about cake.
My cake is included with the hall too. They told me to just bring a picture of one that I like and they will replicate it. If it is fondont, they would have to charge us a bit extra.
See what the restrictions are. Maybe you could bring a picture that you like. Your florist could definately jazz it up for you. They will probably charge you though.
Talk to the hall and to your florist and see what they can do. Save pictures of cakes you like. Maybe your hall could make the cake and your florist could decorated like a picture that you have found.{
I am going throught the same thing. I didnt see examples of what came with the hall but he said they will do anything except fondant or anything 'extravagant' (sp?). What the heck does that mean??? Well I brought 3 pictures the day we signed the contract and he approved them so I am looking for cakes that have the same amount of detail as the pics I brought that day. Some of these cakes are to die for, but definately NOT included.

Re: Confused about cake.
If you supply the flowers they should put them on for you, HOWEVER you may want to ask the florest if they would be willing to do this. MAKE SURE you have a picture or drawing to SHOW them what you want the flowers on the cake to look like. Another idea I had was to have the hall make sheet cakes, and have a bakery make a dummy cake with 1 real layer to cut.

You can have your florist add flowers, but Westbury Manor will also add flowers for extra $$.

Re: Confused about cake.
I hated all the cakes in the book from the hall. I brought some pictures...but most of the ones I brought were fondant (sp?) and since my cake was going to be whipped cream, they couldn't produce the same result. We were tossing out ideas and came up with the basketweave look. They didn't have a pic to show me...so I just trusted them. I thought it came out great...and it was very YUMMY! I'm sure you can explain what you want and not have to only pick from the book.

Re: Confused about cake.
You saw mine. I had the plain cake they gave me and had the florist put roses on it. Its cheaper than Westbury Manor putting them on.
My friends had a pretty plain cake & just had sliced strawberries on it. It looked really nice.
I saw someone take a huge carton of strawberries out when we were leaving, so I guess they supplied them themselves. His dad is a caterer. But the hall may be able to do something like that.
I don't think I want flowers either. I know its fine, but I have this mental block about flowers on something we are going to eat.
Basket weaves are usually included or easy to replicate.
I'm not going too fancy either, probabaly a variation of something in the book.

Re: Confused about cake.
My hall comes with a cake (my contract also says no outside food so I couldnt bring in a cake if I wanted to)
They said they'd make it red for us (color of icing) no problem. But when I asked for Red Velet as the cake itself they sent me to the Baker. They outsource the cake. So now, one month before the wedding Jim & I have an appt to see the baker to taste samples, choose our cake and design.
We are paying extra for this, but still cheaper than straight out, because some of the cost is included in our hall.
Just my thoughts, call the hall and ask if you can do this?
