i finally went dress shopping today for the first time and it was fantastic... i cant believe i was so scared to go. I went to the Wedding Salon of Manhasset and it was great! I stayed for an hour and fifteen minutes total. The first dress i tried on was reem acra (the one with the big hole in the back) and it looked awful... there is not a seamstress in the entire world who could make that gown fit me. Then i tried on a completely lace gown by monique lullier (i cant spell her name) and it was sooooooo gorgeous. my sister was making fun of it in the pictures b/c it has raggedy edges but it lookes so good on. and i am really really petite (aka short) and the a line skirt did not make me feel overwhelmed. The lady bought out this lacy mantilla style veil and it looked perfect... it was the type of veil i always wanted but did not think would match a dress. I could completely see myself walkind down the aisle in that outfit! Then i tried on another monique lullier with a lace top and plain skirt it looked nice but not amazing. then i tried on another monique lullier it was the shiny one with all the roses on the skirt that kevin costner's wife wore... that one was sooo pretty too. my sister hated it when i showed her the pics in the magazine but now she loves it. Last i tried on this huge ballgown by kenneth pool for amsale. It was very pretty... i could tell by my sister's face that she loved it... but i dunno it was more of the traditional tube top with lots of beading ballgown with long train typical wedding dress. so i dunno... i did so much better than i expected cuz i found 3 whole dresses that i love. i think the one i loved the most was the lace one but alas i found out the price was 7800
anyway, thanx for reading this long post. i luved the wedding salon of manhasset and anyone who goes will have a lovely experience so enjoy and dont be scared like me :) start dress shopping right away cuz its lots of fun :) yippeeeee

congrats on your dress shopping experience.. sounds like it was tons of fun... the first time i went was a trunk show for monique lhuillier and i tried on ALL her lace dresses.. loved them all but not the price.. if you're really interested in wearing her designs, you should check out her trunk show, they usually would give a discount.. or go to SAKS and open a saks credit card when you buy it! it's like 10% discount

You sound like me. I'm not sure why but I am all scared to go dress shopping. I have been putting it off for months! I think the idea is just so intimidating to me - EEK! I have to start looking soon though - I told myself I want to pick out my gown by the end of July

i worked with rosemary there... she was so nice and told me to take my time and go shopping for a month before i decide :)
i put it off because i was intimidated and did not think i would ever find a dress, but once you start trying them on it's like you dont ever want to stop... i wish i had started earlier!
i dont have pics of me in the dresses cuz u cant take any until u buy one and i did not bring a camera anyway ... but here are some from the websites. the first pic is the kevin costner dress and the second pic is the kenneth pool one. i cant find a pic of the one i really like, the lace gown from mon. lhullier fall 2005.
They are both the same dress, but really pretty! Its so wonderful you had such a good time.. and its so true what you said about not knowing what you will like until you actually try it on.

Is the lace one you are talking about one of these (from Monique Lhuillier Fall 2005)? If so, I LOVE LOVE LOVE them both!
suz bride, it is the one with lace top that has very thin straps and the skirt has some gathering and there is a sash around the waist. but honestly 7800 is way too much money :( i think that is before tax and alterations too and then there is the veil and the tiara.
do u guys know what a trunk show is? there is one coming up for mon. lhull on july 8-9 at saks...

A trunk show is when the designer (or a representative) comes to the store with thier dresses. They will usually give you a discount if you order during a trunk sale.

No not yet Rosemarie...I went to Priscilla of Boston and tried on a couple dresses. But I've been procrastinating since then. I'm probably gonna hit Bridal Salon of Manhasset next. Definitely go to the trunk show. Most give you 10-15% off. Good Luck

Congrats!!!! I also conquered my fear of dress shopping today and, believe it or not, actually found a dress at David's Bridal that I loved and the price definitely could not be beat. Your dresses are absolutely gorgeous. All the best

I was also scared to go, b/c I am on the plus side, and was worried I would get totally depressed. Anyway, I had a ball my first time out as well. Think I found my gown too!
