Construction at Russo's on the Bay

Original post by jja821

I received a letter this week from Russo's stating that the front of the building will be under construction for 8 weeks starting on July 7, 2004. The letter came with a picture of what the front will look like during the construction. I was wondering if anyone is affected by this and if they are as horrified as I am that my guests will pull up to a glorified construction site.

Honestly, I would be ticked too. But having been to Russo's for a huge charity bash every good friday for the last 8 yrs, you pull up to the doors, the majority of the building your guests will not see when they walk up only has they make that horrible u turn when coming from belt pkwy. Talk to them, I wouldn't go bridezilla, irrational people don't get what they want..JMO..u don't like the answer you receive keep going up the ladder until you talk to the owner.

Re: Construction at Russo's on the Bay

let me just say, you booked Russos with the confidence that they would give you a fab Wedding and I DO AGREE . Now, you must know when Frank Russo does something he does it with style and classs so I would trust that the man is in no way putting his reputation on the line by having a mess going on outside during this time . If anything he will probably make it look even better than it does now so that no one will be upset. And I am not at all working for Mr. Russo but do in fact respect his success. So if you think I am a who cares

I don't understand why they wouldn't be doing this construction in their off season. I would be really disappointed because I have heard that the food is amazing but the outside isn't anything to rave about, I wouldn't want it to look like they were working on it. If I booked with a company and didn't know that they were planning on doing construction during my wedding I would be pissed, I would definetly expect to be compensated in some way. It just isn't right to send a letter and not expect to do anything.

As a matter of fact I did grow up in HB - I wasn't thinking about high schools in Rockaway when I was complaining about construction at Russo's. I am not getting 'wise' about what it will look like I am just annoyed that I have to deal with this crap four months before my wedding when there was nothing wrong with what the place looked like before. The artist's rendering that was sent in the mail depicts an Italian countryside. I don't see how I am

Maybe I'm making a big deal out of this but I don't know too many people who are spending THOUSANDS of dollars and would welcome construction. I understand that Frank Russo wouldn't want to tarnish his reputation but I have never seen a classy and elegant construction site.

I would be pretty upset too. They should have told you when you booked the place that they were planning this and it is not fair that is was concealed from you and you also don't think that you should have just been sent a letter. You are a bride using their facility and the least they could have done was call you personally to let you know, considering you are paying money towards their facelift. I would definiteley keep hounding them. Tell them that this is an inconvenience, as you had hopes of you and your guests pulling up to a nice place and now you will be pulling up to a construction site!! Don't drop it!!! Good Luck and Welcome!!

I agree!

Maybe they will be doing the work during the week...not to say that it won't be visible. I personally didn't book Russo's for the appearance of the hall; that's a given. Based on their reputation, I personally wouldn't be too concerned. I am sure they have a good plan. JMO

Does anyone have a pic of what it is going to look like? I am curious now.

I really think you need to talk to them and sound like you mean business. I think you should threaten that you're going to need to speak to a lawyer because this was never mentioned in your contract, and I KNOW Russo's isn't a cheap place to have a wedding at. It's not fair you're spending the same amount of money as a person who isn't going to have a wedding there when there's construction.

You really need to scare them about this because honestly this could be a legal matter as they misrepresented themselves. Something like construction should have been mentioned a long time ago. NOT 3 months before your wedding! Either you better have your prices lowered, or you better have something thrown in for your wedding.

Re: Construction at Russo's on the Bay

I have posted the e-mail on this on another thread sorry I received my letter from them this week. It is very upsetting to hear about this three months before your wedding after you have had such trust in a hall and honestly I booked the place because I thought it was beautiful and has a wonderful reputation that I have been hearing about for years, I guess that is why I'm so disappointed. B/c I thought my hall was the one thing I could have some faith in and to not worry about at all. I feel letting people know three months before is a set up. I feel now even if we wanted to you would never reconsider now and you are stuck. If when I booked the hall they told me thatthey were reconstructing the front I probably would have reconsidered. The e-mail that spoke about the Italian hillside is true the mural that they will have up is big, blue and not a not so nice picture of Italy. It is good service to compensate in some way anything just to show sincerity and validation of how people are feeling. I have alsways heard that Mr. Russo would do anything to cater to his customers,I hope they are right.

Oh, one more thing there is nothing in the contract that states the place may change appearance at any time...and they will not be working during the time of any events

I would be LIVID. I would book another Hall - get back my $ from Russos and then sue them for the difference. It wouldnt matter to me that it was only a few months before my wedding I would totally change my venue.
This guy Russo cant be a such a great guy if he didnt tell his brides ahead of time. I was looking into the Vanderbuilt and when I called they said they would not be available for my date b/c they were going to be under construction - thats good business. Good business is not covering up renovations and then treating the people that spending their hard earned $ on your services like crap!
